Business Development Manager – Packaging Automation (UK)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with a background in packaging automation, end-of-line systems, packaging equipment, or industrial automation. You will drive new business growth across the UK, developing strategic relationships with manufacturers, logistics operators, and integrators who rely on automated packaging and material handling solutions.
This role suits a commercially sharp BDM who understands automated packaging equipment, customer pain points, and the ROI drivers behind automation investments. You’ll work closely with engineering, solutions, and project teams to shape proposals that solve real operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, target, and win new business opportunities across manufacturing, FMCG, e-commerce, 3PL, and industrial sectors
- Develop and execute a UK sales strategy focused on packaging automation and integrated material handling solutions
- Build strong relationships with decision-makers including Operations Directors, Engineering Managers, Plant Managers, and Procurement
- Conduct site visits, assess customer requirements, and translate operational challenges into clear solution proposals
- Work with internal engineering and solutions teams to scope concepts, costings, and technical proposals
- Deliver compelling presentations, ROI models, and commercial offers to senior stakeholders
- Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation through to contract negotiation and handover to project delivery
- Maintain accurate pipeline reporting, forecasting, and CRM updates
- Represent the business at trade shows, industry events, and customer demonstrations
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies within packaging automation and intralogistics

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
