Role Overview
MM Search is excited to have been retained by Orbital Fabrications for their third Business Development Manager appointment. This role is aimed at candidates with a strong track record in business development and/or account management within the semiconductor sector. Experience working with M&E contractors, EPCs, or other key project stakeholders is ideal. However, experience and a strong understanding of handling gases or chemicals at scale would also be highly relevant.

Title: Business Development Manager – High Purity Systems
Location: Hybrid/UK-wide
Reports to: Commercial Director

Orbital is a recognized leader in high purity, high integrity stainless steel pipework systems, serving EPCs, Main Contractors, M&E contractors, OEMs, universities, and major scientific institutions. Founded in 1988 and acquired in 2023 by Bergman & Beving, Orbital combines the responsiveness and entrepreneurial mindset of a specialist engineering business with the long-term investment and stability of a major industrial group.
Role Purpose
The Business Development Manager will accelerate Orbital’s growth across the UK by securing new installation projects, building long-term strategic relationships, expanding presence in high-growth sectors, and identifying adjacent opportunities linked to their in-house component and system-supply capability. This is a high-impact role with visibility across the business and direct influence on Orbital’s future direction.

What Success Looks Like
Within 12–18 months, success will include:
- A strong, well-qualified pipeline across the semiconductor sector
- New project wins with EPCs, Main Contractors, and M&E contractors
- Deep, trust-based relationships with key accounts
- Clear visibility of future demand and customer roadmaps
- High-quality proposals developed collaboratively with internal teams
- Insightful market intelligence feeding into strategy and forecasting
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
- Pipeline growth: Drive growth in high purity installation projects across priority sectors.
- Sales cycle management: Lead the full sales cycle from prospecting to close.
- CRM discipline: Maintain accurate CRM data, forecasting, and opportunity qualification.
- Adjacent opportunities: Identify opportunities linked to Orbital’s component and system supply capability.
- Industry representation: Represent Orbital at industry events and exhibitions.
Relationship & Account Management
- Account development: Build trusted, long-term relationships with EPCs, Main Contractors, M&E contractors, and facility operators.
- Account growth: Maintain and grow existing accounts.
- Cross-selling: Identify cross-selling opportunities across installation and component supply.
Market & Strategy Development
- Market insight: Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements.
- Strategic input: Provide insight to senior leadership to support commercial planning.
- Marketing support: Support marketing through case studies, technical content, and customer-focused messaging.
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Proven track record engaging EPCs, Main Contractors, and M&E contractors.
- Strong network across the semiconductor sector.
- Demonstrated ability in business development or account management within relevant technical environments.
- Experience using CRM platforms, ideally Salesforce, with strong discipline in pipeline management, forecasting, and data accuracy.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen with the ability to interpret pricing, margin, and volume dynamics, assess opportunity quality, and make data-led decisions that balance growth with profitability.
- Brings the confidence, maturity, and growth potential to develop further within the organization.

Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with high purity systems, specialist engineering environments, or relevant technical products.
- AI-solution orientation, with the ability to adopt new tools, automate routine tasks, and use technology to improve customer engagement, proposal quality, sales efficiency, and data-driven prospecting.
- Comfortable experimenting with new digital workflows and integrating AI-enabled insights into day-to-day commercial activity.
Skills & Behaviours
- Strong communicator able to translate technical concepts into clear, customer-focused value propositions.
- Robust commercial judgement and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable using data, dashboards, and CRM insights to prioritize opportunities and focus effort where it delivers the highest return.
- Highly self-motivated, proactive, and accountable, with the maturity to operate independently and the potential to take on broader responsibility over time.
- Collaborative team player with a continuous-improvement mindset.
Travel Requirements
The role requires regular customer and site visits, with travel expected to account for approximately 50% of working time.
