Business Development Manager

Division/Business Unit: Sales

Office Base: Edinburgh / Hybrid
Regular travel to customer and networking events will be required.

Job Purpose

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our growing Enterprise Sales team. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strong client relationships, and driving revenue growth across our technology and telecommunications portfolio. This role will suit a proactive sales professional with a strong understanding of the Telco product set, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of winning new business (80%) and developing existing accounts (20%).

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales

  • Identify, research, and develop new business opportunities within target markets and sectors.
  • Generate and manage a healthy sales pipeline from prospecting through to contract completion.
  • Develop and execute business development strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Arrange and lead client meetings, presentations, demonstrations, and commercial discussions.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, tenders, quotations, and presentations.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and work closely with internal stakeholders to successfully close opportunities.
  • Achieve agreed sales, revenue, margin, and business development targets.

Client & Account Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Understand customer requirements and identify opportunities to provide additional IT and telecoms solutions.
  • Act as a trusted commercial contact for key customers.
  • Conduct regular account reviews and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the sales and onboarding process.

Market Development

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, emerging technologies, and changes within the IT and telecoms sector.
  • Identify new products, services, technologies, and market segments that could support business growth.
  • Develop relationships with technology vendors, distributors, channel partners, and strategic business partners.
  • Attend industry events, conferences, networking opportunities, and customer meetings to develop new contacts and opportunities.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with technical, solutions, operations, marketing, and commercial teams to develop appropriate customer solutions.
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and regular pipeline updates to senior management.
  • Ensure CRM systems are maintained accurately and consistently.
  • Support the development of sales collateral, campaigns, propositions, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Coordinate with project and delivery teams to ensure customer expectations are aligned with the proposed solution.

Telecoms Solutions

The successful candidate will ideally have experience selling or developing business around some of the following:

  • Connectivity and broadband
  • SD-WAN and network security
  • LAN and WIFI solutions
  • VoIP and unified communications
  • Cloud services and solutions
  • Business mobile
  • Data centre and hosting services
  • Structured Cabling
  • Internet of Things (IoT)

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a business development, sales, or account management role within IT, telecoms, technology, or a related sector.
  • Demonstrable track record of generating new business and achieving sales targets.
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with customers at multiple levels, including senior decision-makers.
  • Strong presentation and proposal-writing skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Commercially aware with a good understanding of sales processes and pipeline management.
  • Confident using CRM and Microsoft Office/365 applications.
  • Full UK driving licence where the role requires customer visits.

  • Existing relationships within relevant customer sectors.
  • Experience working with technology vendors, distributors, or channel partners.
  • Experience with B2B technology or telecoms sales.
  • Understanding of managed services, connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity, or unified communications.
  • Experience responding to formal tenders and RFP/RFQ processes.
