Job Description
Job Title: Business Development Manager
Reports To: Vice President – Client Solutions, UK & Europe
Purpose of the Job
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for developing, solutioning, and closing new business opportunities, as well as retaining existing customer accounts. All opportunities must be delivered at a price that meets customer requirements without compromising service quality within agreed target market sectors.
The BDM will excel at building strong relationships and creating positive impressions with potential customers, both personally and on behalf of BGIS.
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Lead a variety of FM bids to meet and exceed agreed sales targets within target markets defined by the VP – Client Solutions, UK & Europe
- Develop and maintain long-term professional relationships with existing and potential clients across target verticals
- Meet and exceed agreed UK sales targets for each fiscal year
- Maintain excellent client relationships and provide strong after-sales support aligned to the agreed business strategy
- Identify, develop and manage a long-term active sales pipeline, exploring both existing and new market opportunities
- Own the full sales lifecycle including SQ, RFI, RFP and presentation stages
- Create pitch documentation using BGIS standard Word, Excel and PowerPoint templates
- Work collaboratively with the Client Solutions team in the UK and globally
- Engage regularly with Marketing to ensure joined-up, collaborative working across teams
- Use innovative approaches to develop new sources of profitable business
- Represent BGIS at industry events, networking meetings and through social media, promoting a professional company image at all times
- Maintain awareness of industry developments, competitor activity and market trends
- Liaise regularly with the VP – Client Solutions, UK & Europe to provide updates on sales activity and new business opportunities
- Ensure all required internal approvals and sign-offs are adhered to when pursuing new business
- Maintain accurate records and contract documentation to support tenders and re-bids
- Deal promptly and professionally with all pre-qualification requests
- Support retention activity and business improvement initiatives for the existing customer base

Education – Essential
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-focused and methodical approach
- Good basic education
- Full proficiency with Microsoft Office
Education – Desirable
- HNC/D or degree-level qualification
- Professional sales or marketing accreditation
Experience – Essential
- Target-driven and comfortable working in a high-pressure sales environment
- Detail-focused and methodical approach
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional sales experience
- Working knowledge of Salesforce or similar CRM systems
Experience – Desirable
- 5+ years’ Hard FM sales experience
- FM-related professional membership
