Business Development Manager – Packaging

Location: Reading / Thames Valley
Territory: South / South West
Role: Field-based

Package: Between £45,000-£65,000 depending on experience + bonus + company car + benefits

Do you enjoy winning business rather than simply managing what’s already there?
I’m recruiting for an established international packaging manufacturer looking to add a Business Development Manager to its UK sales team.

They’re open-minded on the level of person they hire.

If you already know the corrugated packaging market, we definitely want to speak to you. Equally, if you come from a strong B2B field sales or manufacturing background and have a genuine track record of opening doors and winning new customers, you could also be of interest.

What matters most is your ability and appetite to develop new business.

What you'll be doing

This is a proper field-based business development role.

You'll be out in the market identifying potential customers, getting in front of decision-makers and developing opportunities from the initial conversation through to securing the business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Identifying and targeting new customers across your territory
  • Building your own pipeline rather than relying solely on inbound leads
  • Getting out and meeting prospective customers face-to-face
  • Understanding their packaging, operational and commercial requirements
  • Working with internal technical and manufacturing teams to develop the right solution
  • Preparing proposals and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Winning profitable, long-term new accounts
  • Developing relationships with key decision-makers
  • Managing your territory and sales pipeline effectively

Who are we looking for?

We're deliberately keeping the brief fairly open.

You could already be selling corrugated packaging, cartons or another packaging product, or you may come from a wider manufacturing or B2B environment.

We're more interested in finding someone who can demonstrate:

  • A strong track record in B2B field sales
  • Genuine new-business development experience
  • Confidence prospecting and approaching new customers
  • A willingness to get out from behind the laptop and visit customers
  • Experience managing opportunities through a full sales cycle
  • Commercial confidence when dealing with decision-makers
  • Resilience, self-motivation and a proactive approach
  • The ability to manage a geographical territory independently

Ideally, you'll be based around Reading, Berkshire or the wider Thames Valley, with good access to the surrounding territory.

Why consider it?

You'll be joining a large, established international manufacturer with significant production capability, an established UK customer base and the infrastructure to support you when you win new business.

There is also flexibility around the package for the right person, so we're happy to have conversations with people at different stages of their sales career.

You might not be actively looking.

But if you're a strong field salesperson who enjoys opening doors, developing relationships and winning new customers, it's worth a confidential conversation.
