Business Development Manager

Tynemouth Coffee Co. is an independent North East coffee roaster with big ambitions.

We’re incredibly proud of our North East roots. They’re fundamental to who we are, our personality and our brand, and that won’t change.

But our ambition doesn’t stop at the region.

We’re entering an exciting new phase of growth, with plans to strengthen our position across the North East and build Tynemouth Coffee Co. into a recognised national brand. Longer term, we’d love to see a brand born in the North East being served and recognised internationally too.

To help us get there, we’re looking for an ambitious, commercially minded Business Development Manager who wants to play a genuine part in what comes next.

The Opportunity

This is a role for someone who loves creating and winning new business. You’ll be based at our North Shields roastery, working closely with the wider team while regularly getting out to meet prospective customers, develop relationships and create opportunities across the North East and beyond.

You’ll develop relationships across hospitality, workplaces, hotels, leisure, property, retail and other commercial sectors, from ambitious independents through to multi-site and national organisations. And you’ll be selling much more than bags of coffee.

Our proposition spans freshly roasted coffee, commercial coffee equipment, training, bakery, servicing and ongoing support, giving you plenty of ways to start conversations and build valuable, long-term partnerships.

We want someone who is naturally commercially curious and constantly looking for where the next opportunity could come from.

Someone who notices a new hotel opening, a hospitality group expanding, a major workplace development, a national operator looking for a new supplier or a partnership nobody else has considered and thinks:

“Tynemouth Coffee should be there.”

This is also a role with real autonomy, and with that comes real accountability. We’re not interested in being busy for the sake of being busy. Meetings, miles travelled and conversations only matter if they contribute towards building relationships and creating commercial growth.

We’ll trust you to manage your time and make decisions. In return, we want someone who takes ownership of their performance, understands their numbers and is comfortable being measured on results.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Identifying and winning new B2B customers.
  • Developing relationships with business owners, operators and senior decision-makers.
  • Creating your own opportunities through outbound activity, networking, referrals, partnerships and research.
  • Developing inbound opportunities generated by the wider business and marketing team.
  • Running purposeful discovery meetings and understanding what prospective customers actually need.
  • Organising tastings, samples, roastery visits and customer site visits where they help move an opportunity forward.
  • Creating and presenting compelling commercial proposals.
  • Selling across coffee, bakery, equipment, training and support.
  • Negotiating and closing new commercial agreements.
  • Identifying larger, multi-site and strategic opportunities.
  • Building opportunities beyond the North East as we grow nationally.
  • Spotting potential partnerships and new routes to market.
  • Working closely with our marketing, operations, production and leadership teams to turn opportunities into successful customer relationships.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who We're Looking For

We’re more interested in what you’ve sold, how you’ve won it and what you’ve achieved than whether you’ve worked in coffee before.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in B2B sales or business development, with a proven track record of generating and winning new business.
  • Evidence of consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets, with examples of significant commercial wins and the ability to explain your personal contribution.
  • The confidence to approach and engage senior decision-makers.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a good head for numbers.
  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to understand performance, recognise what’s working and adapt when something isn’t.
  • A results-driven mentality and a positive attitude towards targets, measurement and accountability.
  • The confidence to take ownership of your performance and have open, constructive conversations about results.
  • The ability to distinguish meaningful commercial activity from simply being busy.
  • The ability to listen, ask the right questions and understand what a customer actually needs.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach to finding and creating opportunities.
  • The confidence to work independently while contributing to a wider team.
  • Genuine ambition and an appetite to help build something.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Experience within coffee, hospitality, foodservice, workplace solutions, equipment or another relevant B2B environment would be useful, but it isn’t essential.

Commercial ability, attitude and ambition matter more to us than having coffee on your CV.

We’ll teach you the coffee.

  • £30,000 base salary
  • Uncapped performance-related commission.
  • Enhanced rewards for exceptional performance.
  • Company electric vehicle.
  • Business travel expenses.
  • Full coffee, product and barista training.
  • Marketing support to help create opportunities and open doors.
  • Direct access to the senior leadership team.
  • Real autonomy to develop new opportunities and relationships.
  • Genuine career progression as the commercial team and business grow.
  • The opportunity to play a meaningful role in taking an established North East brand to the next level.
  • And, of course, the coffee’s on us.

Why Tynemouth Coffee Co?

We’re not looking for someone to simply inherit a patch and maintain it. We’re building.

Our home is the North East, and it always will be. But we believe the Tynemouth Coffee Co. brand has the potential to go much further.

We’re looking for someone who shares that ambition.

Someone with the energy to create opportunities, the commercial instinct to recognise the right ones and the determination to turn them into business.

Someone who is comfortable with accountability, motivated by targets and takes real ownership of their performance.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who sees opportunity before it becomes a lead. Someone who spots where Tynemouth Coffee should be, works out how to get us there, and makes it happen.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

How to Apply

Think you're the right person to help take Tynemouth Coffee Co. to the next level? We'd love to hear from you.

Please send your CV and a cover letter telling us why you believe you're a great fit for the role.

Don't just tell us you're good at sales. Show us what you've achieved, how you made it happen and what you could bring to Tynemouth Coffee Co.

We look forward to hearing from you.
