Business Development Manager
Reporting to: Business Development Director
Based in: Teesside
Salary: Negotiable - Whilst all salaries are graded, Sembcorp are keen to attract, retain and develop the highest calibre of colleague. The company also offer a market leading benefits package and annual bonus.
Position overview:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for shaping and delivering strategic growth initiatives across Wilton International and the wider UK energy portfolio. The role provides leadership in identifying, developing and securing major commercial opportunities, influencing investment decisions, and building strategic customer and partner relationships that support the long-term growth, decarbonisation and competitiveness of Sembcorp Energy UK. The role will originate and progress commercial opportunities from early concept through to contract execution, working collaboratively with customers, partners, and internal technical, commercial, and operational teams. The postholder will play a key role in supporting industrial decarbonisation, the energy transition, and long-term value creation for Sembcorp Energy UK.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and lead the implementation of the Business Development strategy for Wilton International and designated areas of the UK energy portfolio, identifying strategic growth opportunities and market positioning priorities that support long-term business objectives.
- Accountable for delivery of the business development growth pipeline and conversion of strategic opportunities into commercially viable projects that support Sembcorp Energy UK's long-term growth ambitions.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Business Development Director and Executive Leadership Team on market developments, customer requirements, industrial decarbonisation opportunities and emerging business risks.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with industrial customers, partners, and key stakeholders at Wilton International and beyond.
- Serve as the executive relationship owner for key strategic customers, partners and investors, maintaining senior-level external relationships that influence investment, growth and long-term commercial outcomes.
- Lead opportunity development from initial engagement through to commercial agreement, including shaping technical concepts, delivery models, and commercial structures.
- Work closely with Engineering, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Operations, and HSSE teams to develop robust and deliverable solutions.
- Support preparation of business cases, financial models, investment papers, and internal approval submissions.
- Lead or support commercial negotiations in line with delegated authority and governance requirements.
- Ensure opportunities progress through internal governance and approval processes in a timely and compliant manner.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity relevant to energy, infrastructure, and industrial decarbonisation.
- Provide regular updates on opportunity status, pipeline, and market insights to the Business Development Director.
- Represent Sembcorp Energy UK at customer meetings, industry forums, and relevant stakeholder engagements.

To be considered for the role you will have:
- Proven experience in a Business Development, Commercial, or Account Management role within energy, utilities, industrial, infrastructure, or related sectors.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience developing and closing complex, long-term agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously from concept to commercial close.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working effectively within cross-functional and matrix organisations.
- Strong understanding of commercial risk, value creation, and governance processes.
