The role
As a Business Development Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll play a pivotal role in driving growth across Babcock's Marine sector, helping to secure and deliver opportunities that support national security and international defence programmes. This is a unique opportunity to work with domestic and global customers, develop strategic relationships, and help shape the future of naval capability through the sale of world-class products and services.
Working within a high-profile growth environment, you'll influence major campaigns, lead complex opportunities, and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the business. Your work will directly contribute to the expansion, profitability, and long-term success of Babcock's Marine business while offering exceptional opportunities for professional development and leadership growth.
Day-to-day, You’ll Be Required To
- Drive business growth opportunities across defence, marine and naval markets.
- Build and strengthen relationships with customers, partners and key stakeholders.
- Lead campaign management activities for major strategic opportunities.
- Develop customer-focused solutions that align with business objectives and market needs.
- Manage and coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver successful bid and growth outcomes

This role is 35 hours per week. You will be working remotely, with the expectation of travelling to Bristol, Rosyth and London once a month, including periodic international travel to New Zealand
Essential Experience Of The Business Development Manager
- Demonstrable experience in a Business Development Manager role within defence or another highly complex industry.
- Proven success delivering business growth activities on major programmes or opportunities.
- Experience leading teams through structured business growth and opportunity management methodologies.
- Strong track record of developing customer relationships and leading cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, financial and commercial awareness skills.
Qualifications For The Business Development Manager
- Educated to A Level standard or equivalent.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
