Business Development Manager - Construction Materials Testing
Are you an experienced sales professional with experience and interest in construction materials testing? This could be your opportunity to excel as a Business Development Manager covering the Midlands/North for SOCOTEC's materials testing business, playing a vital role in supporting SOCOTEC’s continued success.
As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We’re looking for a dedicated Business Development Manager to continue to drive growth in our materials testing business and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.
We are seeking an ambitious, tenacious, resilient, and professional sales person to pro-actively develop our commercial pipeline for construction materials projects in the Midlands and North and close sales with efficiency and professionalism.

The overall objective is to maintain and grow the existing Materials Testing client base through delivery of your individual sales target. Individual targets will be set by the Sales Director each year, covering growth and new business development, in line with the agreed annual budget.
You will be required to implement and lead a structured prospecting programme to identify and close high quality sales opportunities nationally. To develop and generate profitable revenue through:
- Conversion of incoming leads through sources such as referral, website or telephone.
- Development and delivery of a sales plan based on new prospects.
- Driving in-person and remote client calls and meetings.
- Attendance at key industry conferences and events in order to generate a strong sales pipeline and increased brand awareness.
A background in earthworks, construction or construction materials testing, along with knowledge of UKAS accredited laboratory practices, is essential to thrive in this position. This role requires the flexibility to work away from home as required.
The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
- Outreach to potential client prospects
- Support with delivering written sales proposals/bids
- Close liaison with operations managers to ensure correct contract review and successful project delivery
- Closing sales opportunities with tenacity and pro-activity
- Reporting on sales pipeline to the Sales Director via regular meetings
- Supporting the wider sales team with cross-divisional sales activity
Qualifications
To be a successful Business Development Manager, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Full UK driving licence
- A demonstrable track record of sales growth in the construction/construction materials testing sector
- A strong network of industry contacts and a solid reputation for developing a sales pipeline and delivering on sales
- A good knowledge and understanding of construction materials and earthworks specifications
