Business Development Manager

Packaging Solutions & Automation

£50,000–£55,000 Basic + Company Car + Uncapped Commission
Field-Based National Role with Regular UK Travel

Company Overview

A global manufacturer and supplier of protective packaging, packaging automation equipment and sustainable consumables is expanding its UK commercial team. This role will drive growth by identifying, developing and securing profitable new customers across England and Wales.

The business supports customers across manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, e-commerce, food production, pharmaceuticals and wider industrial markets. It combines an established international product portfolio with the autonomy for its UK sales team to develop new markets and commercially valuable customer relationships.

Job Overview

The Business Development Manager will focus predominantly on new business acquisition, targeting senior decision-makers and converting opportunities into long-term customers. Reporting into the UK commercial leadership team, success will be measured by profitable new account wins, gross-margin growth and the ability to build a sustainable national sales pipeline.

  • Identify and secure profitable new business across England and Wales.
  • Sell protective packaging, packaging consumables and packaging automation equipment.
  • Develop targeted prospecting strategies across manufacturing, logistics, e-commerce, warehousing and industrial markets.
  • Engage Operations Directors, Supply Chain Directors, Procurement Leaders and Managing Directors.
  • Conduct customer discovery meetings and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability and operating costs.
  • Build commercially compelling proposals based on operational improvement and return on investment.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle from initial prospecting through to negotiation and contract award.
  • Retain ownership of newly won accounts during their first 12 months before transitioning them into account management.
  • Work with distribution partners while developing direct relationships with end-user customers.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline and deliver sustainable revenue and gross-margin growth.

Person Specification

  • Proven track record in a new business-focused Business Development Manager, Sales Manager or Territory Sales role.
  • Demonstrable success in identifying prospects, opening doors and winning new B2B customers.
  • Experience within packaging, automation, manufacturing, industrial equipment, engineering, logistics, capital equipment, construction products, electrical products or technical sales.
  • Strong prospecting skills with evidence of using creative and varied methods to generate opportunities.
  • Stable career history with evidence of building sustained commercial success.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across England and Wales.
