We're Hiring: Business Development Manager (BDM)

Location: Field-based - North region, with frequent UK travel
Department: Sales

Are you a commercially driven Business Development Manager who thrives on building trusted broker relationships, opening new opportunities and turning insight into results? This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a key region and make a visible impact on the growth and quality of our mortgage business.

You will lead and develop a regional panel of mortgage intermediaries across the North, creating a focused sales plan and building partnerships that deliver sustainable, high-quality business. You will have the freedom to shape activity across your territory, use market insight to uncover growth opportunities and represent our brands at broker meetings, trade events and roadshows. If you enjoy being out in the market, influencing decisions and seeing the direct results of your work, this role offers the scope to do exactly that.

What you'll be doing:

  • Owning and growing a regional panel of mortgage intermediaries, delivering against volume, quality and business-mix targets
  • Building trusted, productive relationships with key brokers and becoming their go-to contact for our mortgage products and services
  • Winning new business by identifying prospective, underperforming and untapped accounts
  • Creating and delivering a data-led regional sales plan that turns customer, market and performance insight into action
  • Leading purposeful broker meetings and presentations, with clear objectives and strong follow-through
  • Tracking conversion, quality and volume performance, then acting quickly to maximise results
  • Using CRM and sales tools to prioritise opportunities, manage activity and maintain accurate records
  • Working closely with internal teams to resolve issues, improve broker experiences and unlock regional growth
  • Bringing competitor and market intelligence back into the business to support commercial decisions
  • Raising our profile through LinkedIn, trade exhibitions, seminars, roadshows and corporate hospitality events
  • Delivering responsibly and with integrity, in line with regulatory requirements, delegated authority, internal policies and Treating Customers Fairly principles
  • Managing your territory, travel, resources, risks and priorities with the autonomy needed to deliver your sales plan

What we're looking for:

  • Proven business-to-business sales experience within financial services
  • Strong knowledge of the financial services intermediary market and experience managing IFA or other intermediary trading relationships
  • A successful track record of selling to intermediaries or other third parties and converting relationships into sustainable business
  • The credibility to explain mortgage products, target markets, lending criteria, policies and procedures clearly
  • Excellent relationship-building, influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • Confident presentation and communication skills, whether engaging one-to-one, virtually or with a group
  • A commercial mindset and confidence using figures to analyse performance, identify opportunities and report against targets
  • Strong planning, organisation, written communication and diary-management skills
  • The drive to work independently, balance competing priorities and take ownership of outcomes
  • Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Office skills, plus experience using CRM databases, Microsoft Teams or similar virtual platforms
  • Relevant regulatory knowledge and a clear commitment to integrity, customer fairness and the prevention of financial crime
  • A full valid driving licence and the flexibility to travel frequently across the UK, including occasional overnight stays

It would be an advantage if you have:

  • CeMAP, CF1 and CF2 qualifications, or current progress towards them
  • Education to at least A-level standard or a professional equivalent such as FPC
  • Knowledge of Kensington products, policies and procedures
  • Experience using sales-planning, presentation or market-intelligence tools in a mortgage sales environment
