Business Development Manager – LV Switchgear
Location: National UK / Field-based
Reports to: Commercial Director
Salary: £55,000–£65,000 basic
Package: £5,000–£8,000 annual car allowance + commission
Role focus: 70% new business / 30% existing accounts
Summary:
Following the internal promotion of the current postholder, our client is recruiting a Business Development Manager to support its continued UK growth. The company is an established UK manufacturer of low-voltage electrical distribution and control-panel solutions for commercial and industrial applications. Its product range includes LV switchboards, factory-assembled panelboards, package substations, automatic transfer switches, lighting and power distribution boards and control panels. The business designs, manufactures and tests its equipment in the UK, supporting customers from initial design and specification through to installation and commissioning. Approximately 70% of the position will focus on winning new business, with the remaining 30% dedicated to developing existing accounts. The successful candidate will build relationships with electrical contractors, consultants and commercial and industrial end users, supported by an experienced internal tendering team.

What you’ll do:
- Identify and develop new project opportunities across the UK.
- Build relationships with electrical contractors, consultants, end users and other key industry decision-makers.
- Grow existing accounts while opening new customers and market opportunities.
- Understand customer specifications, site constraints, budgets and project timescales.
- Qualify opportunities based on technical fit, value, win probability, margin and commercial risk.
- Lead customer conversations and commercial negotiations through to order.
- Work closely with tendering engineers to develop compliant and commercially competitive proposals.
- Maintain an accurate Pipedrive pipeline, monitor quotation conversion and produce reliable forecasts.
Territory and travel:
The role typically involves two to three days of national customer travel per week. Most travel will be completed within the working day, with overnight stays or weekend commitments required approximately four or five times per year.

What we’re looking for:
- A strong record of winning B2B business within LV switchgear, electrical distribution, panel building or a closely related electrical-engineering market.
- Knowledge of products such as switchboards, panelboards, control panels or associated electrical distribution equipment.
- An established network among electrical contractors, consultants, industrial customers or other relevant decision-makers.
- The ability to understand customer requirements and discuss technical, project and commercial considerations credibly.
- Strong prospecting, relationship-development, negotiation and margin-management skills.
- Experience working with tendering, estimating, engineering or operational teams on project-led opportunities.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to manage a national territory.
