DBM Building Contractors is a family-founded construction business established in 2006 and based in West Lothian, Scotland. The company delivers new build, refurbishment, and fit-out projects across the Central Belt, serving both direct clients and main contractors. DBM is supported by a dedicated Project and Commercial Management team, over 60 in-house trade technicians, and a fleet of branded vehicles, enabling efficient project delivery. The business offers a professional yet close-knit environment where team members can contribute to high-quality construction solutions and long-term client relationships.
Role Description
The Business Development Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Livingston, responsible for driving growth across DBM Building Contractors’ core markets. This position focuses on identifying new business opportunities, nurturing relationships with existing and potential clients, and developing strategies to expand the company’s portfolio of projects.

- Day-to-day tasks include prospecting and networking within the construction sector, preparing and delivering proposals and presentations, and collaborating with the Project and Commercial Management teams to align bids with operational capabilities.
- The role also involves tracking market trends, maintaining an up-to-date pipeline, and providing regular performance and forecast reports to senior leadership.
- The Business Development Manager will represent the company at industry events and ensure that DBM’s brand and services are consistently communicated to target audiences.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within construction, fit-out, or related built environment sectors.
- Strong skills in relationship building, stakeholder management, and client engagement, with the ability to maintain long-term partnerships.
- Competence in opportunity identification, pipeline management, and bid or proposal preparation, including negotiation and closing skills.
- Ability to analyze market data, monitor industry trends, and develop practical growth strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confident presentation abilities and professional report writing.
- Solid organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Comfort working on-site in Livingston, collaborating closely with project, commercial, and operational teams.
- Proficiency with common business software tools (e.g., CRM systems, spreadsheets, presentation software) for tracking and reporting.
- Relevant qualification in Business, Sales, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous; equivalent experience also considered.
- Knowledge of the Scottish construction market and local regulatory environment is beneficial.
