Business Development Manager – Transport & Logistics
Portishead, Bristol | Hybrid following onboarding | Full-time
£45,000–£60,000 basic, dependent on experience | OTE £90,000+
Are you a tenacious, entrepreneurial new-business salesperson who creates opportunities rather than waits for them? Do you want strong technology, data and sales infrastructure behind you, with the autonomy to win business and the ambition to grow your responsibility? Firstpoint Logistics is hiring a Business Development Manager to win profitable, long-term clients across UK, European and international transport. This is a genuine new-business role. You will create opportunities and run the complete sales process, rather than inherit a passive account list or compete on price alone.
About Firstpoint
Firstpoint is a technology-enabled transport business providing dedicated, part-load, time-critical, specialist and managed transport solutions. Clients use us when reliability, visibility and control matter. We combine trusted transport partners and experienced operational support with our proprietary Onepoint platform, providing live tracking, ETAs, notifications, proof of delivery and reporting. Technology provides the visibility. Our people take responsibility for the outcome.
The role
You will own the new-business journey from target account and first contact through to signed client and structured operational handover. You will:
- Build a high-quality pipeline within agreed target markets.
- Create opportunities through calls, email, LinkedIn, referrals, networking and client visits.
- Lead discovery to understand operational risk, service failures and commercial consequences.
- Qualify opportunities on fit, value, timing and commercial viability.
- Demonstrate Onepoint and develop solutions with operations, client accounts and finance.
- Negotiate sustainable agreements that protect margin and service quality.
- Maintain accurate opportunities and forecasts in HubSpot.
- Close new business and support effective client onboarding.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The support behind you
Firstpoint’s sales engine combines defined ideal-customer profiles, target-account data, workflows, sequences and reporting. It provides focus and a repeatable process; you provide the judgement, persistence and ability to close. Full onboarding will cover our services, commercial model, operations, Onepoint and HubSpot.
The candidate
Transport or logistics sales experience is highly valued, particularly in dedicated transport, road freight, same-day, time-critical, specialist or managed logistics. We will also consider an exceptional salesperson from another B2B service sector who can prove a full-cycle sales record and learn a complex operational proposition. We want someone who treats their market and pipeline like their own business: spotting opportunities, testing new approaches, taking responsibility for results and following through when deals become difficult. You will need:

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
- Evidence of winning B2B customers and generating your own opportunities.
- Strong discovery, qualification, negotiation and closing skills.

We can teach our services, systems and processes. We cannot replace the personal drive and discipline required to prospect consistently and follow through.
In return
£45,000–£60,000 basic salary, dependent on experience.
Performance-related commission with OTE of £90,000+.
Full, structured onboarding.

25 days’ annual leave plus your birthday off.
Fuel expenses for approved business travel where applicable.
Direct access to senior leadership, product and operational teams.
The opportunity to earn broader responsibility through performance as the business develops.
How to apply
