The Position

Sustainable packaging is one of the biggest challenges facing global manufacturing, and BMT is helping to solve it. From Belfast, we provide the software, engineering services, and hardware that packaging producers worldwide use to design better and produce smarter. We're growing, and we need a Business Development Manager (BDM) who wants to be at the heart of that growth.

This is a commercially focused role responsible for generating qualified opportunities, developing customer relationships, growing strategic accounts, and converting opportunities into sustainable revenue across BMT's product and services portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Sales and working in close partnership with them, the BDM supports the execution of BMT's commercial strategy, contributes to pipeline growth, strengthens the company's presence within target markets and industry sectors, and helps drive long-term revenue growth.

The role is highly customer-facing and requires regular engagement with prospective and existing customers, industry stakeholders, and channel partners. The Business Development Manager will lead business development activities, industry engagement, lead generation initiatives, and event participation to identify and secure new commercial opportunities.

Working closely with the Head of Sales and collaborating with Product and Engineering teams, the Business Development Manager helps ensure customer opportunities are commercially attractive, strategically aligned, and operationally deliverable.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with at least three days per week on-site at the BMT facility and up to two days per week working remotely. The role involves frequent travel to customer locations, manufacturing facilities, industry exhibitions, trade fairs, and conferences to build relationships, generate opportunities, and strengthen BMT's market presence.

Future Opportunity

As BMT continues to grow, this role has the potential to develop into a permanent and a senior commercial leadership position with responsibility for leading business development activities and supporting the growth of a larger sales function.

Responsibilities

Business Development and Opportunity Generation

  • Identify and develop new markets, applications, customers, and routes to market.
  • Generate and qualify new business opportunities aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with prospective customers, industry stakeholders, and strategic partners.
  • Convert opportunities into profitable business.
  • Provide market intelligence and customer insights to support commercial decisions.

Account Growth and Customer Development

  • Lead opportunities through to close, from initial engagement through qualification, proposal, and negotiation, working alongside the Head of Sales on strategic deals.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with existing customers, acting as their trusted commercial point of contact.
  • Drive account growth by actively pursuing repeat business, upselling, and cross-selling across BMT's product and services portfolio.
  • Take ownership of customer retention, developing long-term account plans for key and strategic customers.
  • Proactively spot emerging customer needs and turn them into new revenue opportunities.
  • Coordinate technical and commercial input from Product and Engineering to deliver compelling, deliverable proposals.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
