Business Development Manager - Technology Recruitment, Consultancy & Coaching

Leeds City Centre - Hybrid

Up to £60,000 basic + realistic £80,000-£100,000 OTE, uncapped

If winning clients is the part of recruitment you're best at – and the part you enjoy most – this could be worth a look.

I'm working with a profitable, founder-led technology recruitment and consultancy business generating more than £5m in annual revenue.

They're looking for someone who can open new client relationships and turn them into revenue.

This could suit an experienced recruiter who's spent several years working a 360 desk but has realised that business development is where they're strongest. Equally, you may already be working in a dedicated recruitment BD or client development role.

The important thing is that you can demonstrate you've personally won business rather than simply worked accounts that were already there.

The Role

You'll focus primarily on opening and developing client relationships with an established recruitment delivery team behind you.

That means you can spend more of your time doing the part of recruitment you enjoy: identifying opportunities, getting in front of clients, understanding what they need and developing the relationship.

You'll also have more to talk about than recruitment alone.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Technology recruitment
  • Consultancy and project-based solutions
  • Leadership and coaching programmes

You won't be expected to become an expert in all three overnight. You'll work directly with the founders and wider team to bring the right people into conversations as opportunities develop.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll identify target organisations and commercial triggers, research intelligent routes into accounts and then turn that research into action.

That means picking up the phone, creating meetings, getting out to see clients, attending relevant events and building relationships with technology leaders and senior HR/Talent stakeholders.

You'll take responsibility for developing opportunities from the initial approach through to commercial agreement, then work with the wider team to deliver against the business you've created.

There is plenty of freedom around how you develop your market, but this is a hands-on new-business role. You'll need to be comfortable prospecting consistently, hearing no and going again.

Who Could Fit?

The most obvious background would be an experienced agency recruiter - perhaps Senior Consultant, Principal Consultant or similar - who has a strong track record of winning clients and would like to make business development a much bigger part of their role.

You could also already be working as a recruitment BDM, Client Development Manager or Account Director and want greater autonomy and earning potential.

Recruitment experience isn't an absolute requirement. The business is open to someone selling technology talent solutions, consultancy or another closely related people-led service if you have strong new-business credentials and understand the type of clients and stakeholders involved.

Whatever your background, you'll need evidence that you've personally created new relationships, secured meetings, developed opportunities and converted them into paying clients.

Why Consider It?

  • Up to £60,000 basic salary
  • Realistic £80,000-£100,000 OTE
  • Uncapped commission on the business you generate
  • Additional bonus opportunity
  • Ongoing commission opportunity on business you've originated
  • Established recruiters and delivery capability behind you
  • Recruitment, consultancy and coaching propositions to take to clients
  • Direct access to the founders
  • Autonomy over how you develop your market
  • Leeds city-centre hybrid working
  • Scope for the role to become considerably broader as the business grows

If you're already good at winning recruitment business but would rather spend more of your time creating client relationships than sourcing candidates, I'd like to speak with you confidentially.
