Business Development Manager

Location: Manchester
Salary: £38,000 - £52,000 + Car allowance

The Client

Our client are an established industrial supplies and distribution specialist, they supply a broad range of products to B2B customers. They are looking for a driven new business hunter to expand their customer base and grow active spend across our product range.

The Role of Business Development Manager / Business Development Executive

As Business Development Manager, you will enjoy contacting prospects, spotting opportunities to add value, developing compelling proposals, and closing deals to secure new business and drive growth. This is strictly a new business role, not account management. Your focus will be on identifying new prospects, converting them into open accounts, and building active spend against our quotes list and product basket.

You will be confident selling B2B products and just as comfortable prospecting by phone and online as you are in face-to-face meetings. Knowledge of the utilities, telecoms, defence, transportation, manufacturing, or engineering sectors is an advantage; your attitude and hunger to succeed are essential.

Product knowledge of security or PPE products is particularly desirable.

You will take ownership of your sales pipeline, working closely with internal product specialists, manufacturers, and suppliers, and thinking strategically about how we can help customers reduce costs and improve efficiency. With a hunter mentality and a proven track record of winning new business, you will have the freedom to use your own initiative, backed by the support of our commercial, product, and sales support teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
