Business Development Manager – NBS Specifier

Newcastle upon Tyne | Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 home

Competitive basic + commission | £60,000 OTE Year 1

NBS has been part of UK construction specification for more than 50 years. Today, its specification solutions are used by more than 3,400 architectural and engineering practices, including 93% of the AJ Top 100.

We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to help us continue to grow that customer base.

This is new business. You’ll prospect for opportunities, speak with architects, specifiers and other construction professionals, understand how they manage specifications today and show where NBS can make that work more effective and consistent.

You’ll own opportunities from the first conversation through discovery and demonstration to proposal, negotiation and close.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build your own pipeline through proactive prospecting, smart targeting and consistent follow-up.
  • Develop credible conversations with architects, specifiers and other construction professionals.
  • Understand prospective customers’ workflows, priorities and challenges through structured discovery.
  • Deliver relevant demonstrations that connect NBS to what the customer is trying to achieve.
  • Own opportunities through proposal, objections, negotiation and close.
  • Keep HubSpot accurate and your pipeline moving.
  • Work alongside sales, marketing and appointment-setting colleagues while owning your new-business results.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for them.

You can start commercial conversations, ask good questions and listen properly to the answers. You can communicate value clearly, stay organised across a pipeline and take responsibility for progressing your opportunities.

You’ll also need the resilience that comes with new-business sales. Not every conversation becomes an opportunity, and not every opportunity becomes a customer.

Previous B2B sales experience would be useful. Knowledge of construction, architecture or specification can help, but commercial curiosity and the ability to learn the customer and proposition matter too.

What you can expect

£60,000 OTE in Year 1, combining a competitive basic salary with commission.

This is our standard Business Development Manager level, with the opportunity to build your capability across prospecting, discovery, pipeline ownership and closing new business as you develop towards the next stage of your sales career.

You’ll work a 35-hour week, Monday to Friday, with three days each week at our One Trinity Gardens hub and two from home.

You'll also have 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, the option to buy or sell holiday, birthday leave, volunteering days, pension and life assurance, discounted private medical insurance, 24/7 remote GP access and other Hubexo benefits.

Ready to build your future.
