Business Development Manager
The Business Development Manager is a target-carrying new business role responsible for driving growth across a managed IT services, connectivity, cyber security, cloud, communications and wider technology portfolio. The role will operate at a senior level with prospective clients, engaging business owners, senior stakeholders and IT decision-makers to understand their business challenges, priorities, budgets and long-term goals.
The Business Development Manager will identify opportunities, develop relationships, shape solutions and manage the sales process from initial conversation through to negotiation and close. The role will suit someone who can move beyond product-led selling, build credibility with senior decision-makers and position the business as a trusted technology partner.
Responsibilities
- New business development: Identify and win new customers, focusing on higher-value opportunities and taking a consultative approach to sales
- Pipeline management: Build and manage a strong pipeline, taking ownership of opportunities throughout the full sales cycle
- Senior-level engagement: Build relationships with business owners, senior stakeholders and IT decision-makers to understand their challenges, priorities and budgets
- Consultative selling: Understand customer needs and position the right technology solutions around business outcomes, rather than simply selling individual products
- Qualifying opportunities: Make sure opportunities are a good fit before committing internal time and resources
- Proposals and presentations: Lead proposals, pricing and customer presentations, working with internal technical and sales teams where required
- Negotiation and closing: Manage objections, commercial discussions and negotiations through to a successful close
- Target delivery: Take ownership of personal sales targets, including new business revenue, gross profit and recurring revenue
- CRM and forecasting: Keep CRM records, opportunity details, next steps and forecasts accurate and up to date
- Internal collaboration: Work closely with sales, pre-sales, technical, delivery, finance and procurement teams to ensure opportunities are managed effectively
- Market awareness: Keep up to date with the local market, competitors, customer buying trends and relevant technology developments
- Customer handover: Make sure new customers are handed over effectively to the delivery and account management teams with all relevant information

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
