An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a growing engineering and infrastructure consultancy. This is a newly created position that will play a pivotal role in driving strategic growth across London and the wider UK business.
The organisation provides specialist consultancy services to clients across the built environment, construction, engineering and infrastructure sectors. Following continued success and ambitious growth plans, they are seeking a commercially focused individual who can help identify opportunities, strengthen client relationships and support the business in securing new work. This is an excellent opportunity for somebody looking to move beyond traditional bid management and play a more influential role in shaping business growth strategy.
Your new role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities while supporting the ongoing growth of key client accounts and framework agreements. This role combines business development, opportunity management, client engagement and bid support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full business development lifecycle.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining a qualified pipeline of opportunities, providing accurate forecasting and CRM reporting
- Identifying and qualifying new business opportunities across target sectors and strategic clients
- Supporting directors and regional leaders with pipeline development, market intelligence and account planning
- Tracking framework opportunities, procurement routes and tender portals to identify upcoming opportunities
- Leading bid/no-bid decision-making processes and supporting pursuit strategies
- Coordinating the production of PQQs, EOIs, tenders and supporting bid submissions
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients, consultants, architects, contractors and key industry stakeholders
- Acting as a key contact for priority accounts, identifying repeat business and cross-selling opportunities
- Representing the business at networking events, industry conferences, exhibitions and client meetings
- Gathering market intelligence, competitor insight and client feedback to support growth strategies
- Working alongside marketing teams to develop case studies, bid collateral, thought leadership content and profile-raising activities
- Supporting the delivery of business development plans aligned to regional and national growth objectives
- Reporting on pipeline performance, forecasting, market trends and bid success rates to senior management
- Collaborating with wider business units and corporate functions to maximise opportunities across the organisation

The position is based in Central London with hybrid working, typically three days in the office and two from home. Regular travel across the UK will be required to attend client meetings, networking events and regional offices.
What you'll need to succeed
We are particularly interested in speaking to candidates who understand both the bid process and the commercial activities that sit before it.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- Proven business development, sales or bid management experience within the built environment sector
- Experience managing opportunity pipelines from lead generation through to project award
- Strong understanding of procurement routes, framework agreements and tendering processes
- Experience supporting strategic account management and client relationship development
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and networking skills
- Strong commercial awareness and market intelligence capabilities
- Experience using CRM systems to manage opportunities and forecasting
- Excellent presentation, communication and influencing skills
- A proactive, self-sufficient and solutions-focused approach

Desirable experience:
- Whilst not essential, the following experience would be advantageous:
- Existing network of contacts across the construction, development, engineering or property sectors
- Experience within engineering consultancy or professional services environments
- Knowledge of public sector and private sector procurement frameworks
- Understanding of consultancy fee proposals and commercial negotiations
- Experience developing key account plans and growth strategies
- Relevant qualification within engineering, construction or the built environment
