Business Development Manager – Metal Manufacturing

Location: Cheshire / North West England (Field-Based)
Salary: £40,000–£45,000+ base + uncapped commission
Employment Type: Permanent

Role Summary

An established UK metal manufacturer is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive new business growth across manufacturing sectors. This is a field-based role focused on identifying opportunities, building customer relationships, and converting technical requirements into profitable business. You'll work closely with senior leadership and technical teams to expand market presence and develop long-term customer partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new business opportunities across relevant manufacturing industries.
  • Identify and engage prospective customers through research, networking, and outbound activity.
  • Arrange and attend customer meetings and site visits.
  • Develop additional opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Understand customer requirements and coordinate quotations.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director to deliver suitable manufacturing solutions.
  • Represent the business at trade shows and industry events.
  • Support sales strategy and contribute ideas to the company's digital presence.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and activity reporting.
  • Travel throughout the UK and internationally when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven sales or business development experience within metal manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication, pressings, stampings, sheet metal, or engineered components.
  • Demonstrated success in winning new business and building customer relationships.
  • Strong commercial, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to understand and discuss technical manufacturing requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience selling into aerospace, automotive, defence, rail, energy, construction, industrial equipment, or general engineering sectors.
