Business Development Manager (SME) – London
As a global leader in commercial payments that powers international business by moving money with ease, Convera is seeking a Business Development Manager (SME) to drive sales of complex products, hedging solutions, and FX, within our London office, supporting sales across The UK.
The Role
We are looking for tenacious, motivated individuals with a competitive mindset to build a pipeline of Small-to-Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) and achieve new business revenue by addressing their international payments and hedging needs.
Lead Generation:
- Leverage your deep understanding of Convera’s value proposition to build a suitable pipeline to attract new clients for our [B2B SME division]
- Achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) such as revenue setting targets, and report them on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis to drive new business through a mix of payment and hedging solutions
- Focus on Small-to-Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME) aligning with Partners under the direction of Sr. Business Development Managers (Sr. BDMs), Head of Desk, or Sales Leaders
- Proactively seek new business opportunities through cold calls, networking events, referrals, exhibitions, and partnerships
- Use sales tools like Salesforce, Highspot, and ZoomInfo to generate leads (using emails, cold calls, etc.) to generate new sales opportunities
- Manage the sales cycle up to client onboarding, before transitioning to the client account management team
Relationship Building & Management:
- Introduce relevant support functions such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Corporate Hedging Manager (CHM), and/or Sales Leaders/Heads of Desk to clients
- Build and maintain long-lasting client relationships with associated organizations, partners, and advisors of our prospective client
- Collaborate with internal teams to build a strong external network of Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) partner

Negotiations & Contract Management:
- Influence clients ranging from start-up owners to directors, to C-suite executives of targeted corporations
- Ensure contract compliance by working closely with the Compliance team
- Ensure client adoption of our services by scheduling regular meetings to discuss and review progress, and own an undertaking of a general “health check” of client’s status
- Maintain documentation of all relevant SFDC records (e.g., sales diary, prospect’s next steps, etc.)
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work closely with internal teams (i.e., including bid, customer assurance, pre-sales, and customer care) to ensure seamless service delivery
Reporting & Analysis:
- Maintain accurate forecasts and knowledge of clients’ currency needs, risks, and opportunities
- Perform market analysis and attend industry events
Basic Qualifications
- [2-5] years financial services sector experience in FX (i.e., understanding of financial markets and their instruments)
- B2B sales experience
- Experience in consultative selling, corporate negotiations, and customer acquisition (including networking events, trade fairs, cold calling, etc.)
- Strong understanding of bulk payment processing, international payments, accounting systems, and platform integration
- Financially astute and proven ability to achieve or exceed KPIs and revenue targets
- Ability to work both independently and within a fast-paced team environment
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Willingness to attain [Level 3 CISI Certificate (i.e., Introduction to securities and investments)] and/or [Level 4 CISI Certificate (Investment advice diploma)] within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in corporate sales or management consulting
- Foreign Exchange (FX) knowledge preferred, especially with payments, risk management, and/or hedging solutions
- Familiarity with the Miller-Heiman strategic selling framework or similar sales methodologies
- Detailed knowledge of the geographical area of reference in terms of banking environment, including established professional networks, competition, and technology supplier
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; MBA is a plus
