Looking for a business development role where the solutions you sell have genuine operational impact?
At Steatite Communications, we design and deliver specialist communications technology used across defence, government and security environments.
We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to develop new opportunities and strengthen customer relationships across the UK defence and secure communications market.
The Role
This is a consultative, relationship-led position. You’ll engage with defence and government customers, understand their operational challenges and work closely with our Engineering, Commercial and Project teams to develop solutions that meet both technical and commercial requirements.
You will take ownership of opportunities throughout the sales lifecycle, from initial engagement and qualification through to proposal, negotiation and order placement.
What You Will Be Doing
- Develop relationships with UK defence, government and security customers.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Identify customer requirements and develop commercially viable solutions.
- Prepare quotations, proposals and tender responses.
- Support bids, pricing discussions and commercial negotiations.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, pipeline information and forecasts.
- Support customer demonstrations, field trials, exhibitions and operational exercises.
- Promote Steatite’s Wave Relay® and wider communications portfolio.
- Work closely with Engineering and technical teams to deliver successful customer outcomes.
- Monitor market developments, competitors and emerging technologies.
- Travel across the UK and internationally as required.

What We Are Looking For
You will have:
- Proven business development, account management or commercial sales experience.
- Experience engaging with defence, government or security-sector customers.
- Knowledge of UK MoD structures and defence procurement processes.
- Experience developing and managing sales pipelines.
- Experience preparing commercial proposals, quotations or tender submissions.
- Strong consultative selling and relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.
- Experience using CRM systems and managing sales forecasts.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Experience in secure or tactical communications, MANET technologies, networking, RF or IP communications would be advantageous, as would a military or defence background.
We also welcome applications from ex-military professionals with relevant defence and customer-facing experience who are looking to develop a commercial career.
Security Clearance
This role requires Security Check (SC) clearance. Candidates must be willing and able to undergo the relevant security vetting process; existing SC or DV clearance would be advantageous.
