Business Development Manager
Main Purpose of the Role
An established and growing organisation operating within the laboratory and technical services sector is seeking a Business Development Manager to support its continued commercial growth.
The successful candidate will be responsible for generating new revenue, identifying prospective customers and developing new business opportunities across relevant markets.
This is a commercially focused role requiring a proactive approach to business development, relationship building and the management of opportunities from initial engagement through to successful conversion.
Reporting To: Senior Commercial Management
Key Performance Measure: Delivery of new business revenue against agreed commercial targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across target markets.
- Generate new sales revenue and achieve agreed annual commercial targets.
- Proactively identify prospective customers and emerging market opportunities.
- Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified sales opportunities.
- Convert prospective opportunities into new customers.
- Undertake outbound business development activity through telephone, email, virtual meetings and face-to-face engagement.
- Develop strong relationships with prospective customers and key industry stakeholders.
- Attend relevant exhibitions, conferences, networking events and industry meetings.
- Prepare quotations, commercial proposals and supporting sales documentation.
- Respond to and support relevant inbound commercial enquiries.
- Present the organisation's capabilities and services to prospective customers and stakeholders.
- Manage opportunities through the full sales cycle, from initial contact through to commercial agreement.
- Support the early-stage development of newly acquired customer relationships where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with internal technical, operational and support functions to ensure an effective transition following a successful sale.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, opportunities and commercial progress.
- Produce regular reporting covering pipeline development, quotations, new business activity and revenue generation.
- Contribute to marketing activity and broader commercial initiatives where required.
- Maintain awareness of relevant market trends, customer requirements and competitor activity.

Travel

This is predominantly a field-based commercial position, with regular travel required across the UK to meet prospective and existing customers.
Occasional overnight stays may be required depending on customer requirements and geographical location.
There may also be limited international travel where commercially appropriate.
