Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Business Development Manager to join our successful Water Sector. Costain continues to grow significantly across the sector on the back of a successful AMP8 campaign, partnering with UK water companies to deliver strategic capital delivery programmes, major projects, and wider services. We have secured long-term collaborative programmes for the AMP8 investment cycles and beyond, and seek a candidate at a pivotal time in the water sector who wants to be part of shaping the future of Costain’s in the industry.

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is a central role in developing customer propositions to meet the strategic needs of our water company clients. The BDM will establish excellent relationships with clients across the UK which will underpin the successful delivery of our business plan targets. The purpose of the role is to identify, develop, and drive a strategic opportunity pipeline for long-term success, building strong customer and industry relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Customer focus: Develop strong trusting relationships with clients and strategic partners in alignment with growth plans, working closely with delivery leaders.
  • Client planning: Develop and maintain strategic growth plans for larger opportunities to meet ambitions within the water sector strategy and business plan.
  • Opportunity pipeline: Develop and maintain an accurate pipeline of opportunities in the Dynamics CRM system to align with water sector strategy and following governance processes.
  • Shaping Solutions: Lead and support the early shaping stage of strategic opportunities, building differentiated propositions with clients through market engagement and creating new solutions to align with their capability and capacity needs.
  • Organisational Engagement: Support the development of an informed and connected business by engaging extensively with internal cross-company subject matter experts and teams (including Sectors, Commercial, Work Winning, Engineering Services, and Corporate Functions).
  • Work Winning: Maintain full compliance with Work Winning Governance and business planning activities. Oversee technical and commercial development during the tender phases to ensure customer-focused solutions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
