At Biocair, our specialist temperature-controlled logistics solutions support pharmaceutical, biotech, research and healthcare organisations around the world.
We are looking for a Business Development Manager to help grow our UK healthcare and life-sciences business. You will develop new customer relationships, grow existing partnerships and help expand our presence across markets including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, Cell & Gene Therapy, R&D and laboratory organisations.
Reporting to the Global Accounts and UKI Sales Director, you will have ownership of your commercial territory while working closely with colleagues across Operations, Customer Service, Finance, Project Management, Sales and Marketing.
This is a field-based role with a minimum of one day per week in the Cambridge office. Travel across the territory, including occasional overnight stays, forms part of the role.
We welcome people who have built their skills through different career paths. Relevant commercial experience might come from logistics, transportation, healthcare, life sciences or another environment where you have sold complex services and built lasting B2B customer relationships.
Role Responsibilities Overview:
You will take ownership of developing a healthy sales pipeline and converting opportunities into sustainable, profitable customer relationships. You will identify new prospects, respond to incoming opportunities and grow established accounts by understanding customer needs and identifying appropriate Biocair services and solutions.
A particular focus will be helping develop and execute our UK Cell & Gene Therapy growth strategy, identifying opportunities and strengthening Biocair's position as a specialist logistics partner.
You will:
- build, qualify and progress a sustainable pipeline of opportunities;
- develop new customer relationships and expand existing accounts;
- lead customer discovery conversations and translate requirements into appropriate commercial solutions;
- prepare proposals, quotations and pricing solutions;
- lead and coordinate responses to tenders, RFPs and RFQs;
- negotiate commercial agreements in partnership with relevant internal teams;
- own revenue, growth and profitability outcomes within your territory;
- conduct effective customer business reviews and follow through on opportunities, risks and agreed actions;
- collaborate with Operations, Customer Service, Finance and Project Management so proposed solutions are commercially viable and operationally deliverable;
- monitor customers, competitors and market developments to identify opportunities and risks;
- maintain accurate pipeline, opportunity and customer information in Salesforce;
- contribute forecasts, business planning and commercial insight; and
- represent Biocair appropriately at customer meetings, industry conferences, exhibitions and networking activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You'll Bring:
We are interested in what you have achieved and how you work, rather than a particular career route.
You will bring evidence of:
- delivering B2B commercial growth and working towards sales or growth targets in logistics, transportation, healthcare, life sciences or a related environment;
- developing prospects into new customer relationships and growing established accounts;
- understanding customer challenges and translating them into commercially viable propositions;
- managing a pipeline and using CRM technology such as Salesforce;
- commercial negotiation and working with contracts or customer agreements;
- analysing customer, market or commercial information to make sound decisions;
- communicating commercial ideas clearly in writing, conversation and presentations;
- collaborating across operational, finance and customer-facing teams;
- organising competing priorities and progressing opportunities through to an outcome; and
- taking ownership of commercial activity within an assigned market or territory.
The role also requires the ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications to create effective reports, business cases and customer presentations.
Experience of pharmaceutical, biotech, Cell & Gene Therapy, clinical/research, healthcare or specialist logistics environments could help you get up to speed, but candidates should not screen themselves out solely because their background uses different terminology.
