Position Description
The Business Development Manager reports directly into the Sales & Marketing Director and is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, building strong client relationships, and developing strategies to increase market share across key sectors. Working closely with technical, applications, project delivery, and senior leadership teams, you will be instrumental in driving sustainable growth and increasing brand presence within the marketplace.

The position offers the opportunity to combine strategic thinking with hands-on sales activity, enabling the business to achieve its ambitious growth objectives while delivering exceptional value to customers.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development
- Identify target customers, building an information system to identify new opportunities, developing the presentational materials, and establishing budgets and timelines.
- Develop and implement strategic business development plans aligned with company objectives.
- Generate qualified leads through networking, referrals, cold outreach, industry events, and market research.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities.
- Negotiate contracts and convert leads in the pipeline into profitable long-term customer relationships.
- Consistently achieve and exceed agreed sales and revenue targets.
Client Relationship Management
- Develop strong relationships with customer key decision makers, acting as a trusted advisor to understand customer needs and providing tailored solutions.
- Conduct regular client meetings, site visits, and presentations.
- Identify opportunities to upsell additional products or services such as aftermarket servicing and controls.
- Maintain excellent customer service, ensure customer satisfaction, and support long-term account retention.
Sales Strategy & Market Development
- Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and future customer requirements in the DC sector.
- Identify emerging opportunities within target sectors and geographical regions.
- Develop strategies to increase market share and revenue growth.
- Create and execute business development campaigns to generate demand.
- Support the development of annual sales plans and budgets.
- Provide market intelligence and commercial insights to senior leadership.

Tender & Proposal Management
- Identify suitable tender opportunities through industry portals and customer networks.
- Collaborate with estimating, technical, and operations teams to prepare competitive proposals.
- Lead the development and submission of high-quality tender responses and quotations.
- Present proposals and solutions to prospective clients.
- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures, and contract agreements.
- Ensure all submissions align with company standards and customer expectations.
Pipeline Management & Reporting
- Maintain accurate opportunity and customer records within the CRM system.
- Track and report on sales activity, forecasts, and pipeline performance.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on business development activities.
- Monitor key performance indicators and sales metrics.
- Produce management reports and business forecasts.
- Ensure all sales opportunities are effectively progressed and documented.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience in business development or sales, preferably in the data centre industry.
- Proven track record in identifying, developing, and winning new business.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation experience.
- Experience managing complex sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
