Business Development Manager

Home-based with regular travel across the UK, including NHS Trusts, healthcare organisations and offices in Huntingdon and St Ives

Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Permanent
Competitive salary

We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to join our Business Development team. This is an opportunity to help shape the future growth of HCA Backlogs Ltd as we continue to expand our diagnostic and pathology services across the NHS and wider healthcare sector. Working at the forefront of healthcare partnerships, you'll play an important role in connecting organisations with solutions that help reduce waiting times, improve access to services and support better outcomes for patients.

As a Business Development Manager you'll be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities across NHS Trusts and healthcare organisations. Working closely with operational and commercial colleagues, you'll build relationships with senior stakeholders, develop tailored solutions and lead commercial discussions that help organisations meet their service needs.

This role offers a high degree of autonomy alongside the opportunity to influence strategic growth initiatives. From attending industry events and presenting to executive audiences, to supporting procurement processes and identifying emerging market opportunities, your work will directly contribute to expanding services and strengthening partnerships across the healthcare sector. You’ll also play a key role in ensuring newly won business is successfully transitioned into delivery, helping to create positive experiences for customers from the outset.

Above all else, we’re committed to the care and improvement of human life. It’s this guiding vision that influences everything we do at HCA UK. From the CEO to the colleagues on the floor we all have a part to play in delivering exceptional care to our patients. Other’s may think this is just a role in Business Development, but to us, you’ll be part of a wider team with a unique sense of purpose, one that helps improve lives on a daily basis.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
