Business Development Manager – CEM/EMS
Location: UK – Field-based (Ideally Midlands-based)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Package: Competitive DOE + Commission / Bonus
About The Company
A leading UK electronics manufacturing provider is strengthening its commercial team as part of its continued growth strategy.
Supporting OEM customers with a broad range of outsourced manufacturing solutions, the business offers capabilities spanning PCBA, SMT and through-hole assembly, box build, cable and wiring harness assembly, electromechanical integration, NPI, testing, and turnkey manufacturing.
With experienced Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Manufacturing teams behind you, you'll have the technical capability and supply-chain expertise needed to turn complex customer requirements into commercially compelling manufacturing solutions.
Role Overview
This is a strategic hunter role with one clear objective: win new OEM manufacturing business across the UK.
You'll own the full business development lifecycle – identifying target accounts, opening doors and qualifying opportunities before progressing technical discussions, BOM requirements, RFQs, quotations, and commercial negotiations.
This isn't an account-management-led position. We are looking for someone who enjoys creating opportunities from the ground up, can engage credibly with Engineering and Procurement, and understands what it takes to convert an OEM manufacturing requirement into a long-term production programme.
You'll be equally comfortable discussing NPI and prototypes as you are larger production opportunities, component sourcing challenges, supply-chain strategy, and full turnkey manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business Acquisition: Identify, target, and win new OEM customers across the UK, building a sustainable pipeline of qualified EMS/CEM opportunities.
- Strategic Prospecting: Generate opportunities through direct outreach, networking, referrals, industry relationships, exhibitions, and market intelligence.
- Technical Discovery: Engage Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, and senior stakeholders to understand BOMs, production volumes, testing, quality, lead times, and manufacturing requirements.
- RFQ Management: Own opportunities through RFQ and quotation stages, coordinating internally to develop competitive technical and commercial proposals.
- Solution Selling: Position capabilities across PCBA, SMT, through-hole, box build, cable assembly, electromechanical assembly, testing, and turnkey manufacturing.
- NPI to Production: Develop opportunities from prototype and NPI requirements through to repeat and higher-volume manufacturing programmes.
- Supply-Chain Solutions: Work with Procurement and Supply Chain teams around component sourcing, BOM analysis, availability, lead-time, and commercial challenges.
- Commercial Negotiation: Lead pricing, contractual, and commercial discussions to secure profitable, sustainable OEM partnerships.
- Pipeline Ownership: Maintain accurate CRM activity, opportunity management, forecasting, and reporting across your UK territory.
- Market Intelligence: Provide insight into competitor activity, customer investment, emerging opportunities, and wider electronics manufacturing trends.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
