Freshfields is looking for an experienced and commercially-minded Business Development Manager to join our global Financial Institutions Group (FIG). This is an exciting opportunity to work at the centre of a thriving international practice, partnering with market-leading lawyers and some of the world's most significant financial institutions.

Sitting at the intersection of strategy, client development and market insight, you will play a key role in driving growth across the US while contributing to the global direction of the FIG sector. This role offers a rare combination of local market influence and global reach, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, shaping strategy and delivering tangible business impact.

As a trusted adviser to the FIG partners and wider business development team, you will:

  • Help shape and execute business development plans that support the continued growth of the FIG practice in the US and globally.
  • Lead the development of compelling client pitches, proposals, panel submissions and other strategic pursuits.
  • Build and deepen relationships with key financial institution clients, supporting client programmes and identifying opportunities to grow our work.
  • Drive thought leadership, events, campaigns and profile-raising initiatives that strengthen Freshfields' position in the market.
  • Use client, competitor and market intelligence to generate insights that inform strategy and uncover new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across practices, sectors and jurisdictions to support cross-border opportunities and integrated client solutions.
  • Contribute to global FIG initiatives by bringing a strong understanding of market trends and developments within the financial services sector.
  • Support and mentor junior team members, helping to foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
