Business Development Manager Freight Forwarding

Location: Folkestone

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE + Uncapped Commission + Car Allowance/Company Car

Job Type: Full-time | Permanent

Are you an experienced Business Development Manager with a proven background in freight forwarding and logistics?

We're looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join a successful and growing freight forwarding business based in Folkestone. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales professional to play a key role in growing the business by developing new customers and identifying opportunities across road, sea, air, courier, warehousing, and customs services.

European Road Freight experience is essential, and we're looking for someone who understands the market, enjoys building strong customer relationships, and has a proven track record of winning profitable new business.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Identifying and securing new, regular, and profitable freight customers across road, sea, air, and courier services.
  • Developing new business opportunities across freight forwarding, warehousing, and customs services.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with prospective and existing customers.
  • Identifying new markets and opportunities to grow revenue and profitability.
  • Managing the full sales process from initial prospecting through to securing new business.
  • Working closely with the Operations team to ensure customers receive a professional, tailored, and high-quality service.
  • Supporting the ongoing development and growth of customers you have introduced to the business.
  • Ensuring clear and commercially viable profit margins are maintained across accounts and individual jobs.
  • Negotiating rates and commercial agreements to maximize profitability.
  • Travelling to meet prospective and existing customers, attending meetings, and developing long-term business relationships.
  • Monitoring market trends and identifying opportunities to expand the company's customer base and service offering.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure a smooth transition from winning new business through to operational delivery.

About You:

  • Several years' proven experience within European Road Freight sales is essential.
  • Previous sales experience within a freight forwarding or logistics environment.
  • A proven track record of winning and developing profitable new business.
  • Strong understanding of transport and international logistics.
  • Excellent negotiation and commercial skills with a strong understanding of margins and profitability.
  • Confident building relationships with customers and stakeholders both over the phone and face-to-face.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Resilient, positive, and self-motivated with the drive to achieve and exceed targets.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Analytical and commercially minded, with the ability to identify opportunities and maximize revenue.
  • High level of IT literacy.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to meet customers.
