Our client is a well-established independent Freight Forwarder that has been trading for over 40 years. During that time, they have built an excellent reputation within the industry and developed a business where personal relationships genuinely matter.
They are now looking for an experienced Freight Forwarding Business Development Manager with a genuine hunter mentality who can identify, develop and win profitable new customers.
This is very much a sales-focused role. Once new business is won, a dedicated operations and customer service team will manage the day-to-day account requirements, allowing the BDM to remain focused on developing relationships, building pipeline and winning new business.
Business Development Manager - Position Remuneration
- Basic salary: £45,000-£55,000, dependent on experience
- 5-7% commission on gross profit
- Company car allowance
- Home-based / field-based role

Business Development Manager - Position Overview
The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For
- Identifying and developing new business opportunities across the freight forwarding market.
- Generating their own leads and building a strong, sustainable sales pipeline.
- Winning profitable new customers through a consultative and solutions-led approach.
- Developing relationships with prospective customers and identifying opportunities across multiple freight services.
- Managing the full sales process from initial contact through to commercial negotiation and close.
- Working closely with the operational team to ensure a smooth handover of new accounts.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of market conditions, customer requirements and competitor activity.
The business is particularly interested in candidates who can bring opportunities across Deep Sea container freight, Imports, Project Freight, or other complementary freight forwarding services.

- Proven track record of personally winning new business within freight forwarding.
- Strong knowledge of the freight forwarding industry and good commercial awareness.
- Demonstrable ability to generate leads and build a pipeline independently.
- Ideally, an existing network of customer relationships or opportunities that can be developed.
- Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Solutions-led approach to sales rather than competing purely on price.
- Self-motivated with the drive and independence to work effectively from home.
- Experience across Deep Sea, Imports, Project Freight or related freight services would be advantageous.
