Business Development Manager – Fire Alarm Systems & Data Centres
Salary: Up to £75,000 basic plus OTE
Location: London – candidates are to live in North or West London
An established fire protection specialist is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to grow its fire alarm systems business, with a particular focus on the data centre sector. With over 50 years of experience, the company provides complete fire protection, detection and suppression services to industrial and commercial clients across the UK, from initial surveys and bespoke design through to installation and ongoing maintenance.
The Role
You will develop new business, working predominantly with end users and selected M&E contractors and facilities management clients. Your responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and developing fire alarm opportunities, particularly within data centres.
- Undertaking site surveys, understanding client requirements and preparing tailored proposals and quotations.
- Developing opportunities for new installations and upgrades to existing systems.
- Building strong relationships with decision-makers and managing the sales process through to securing orders.
- Working closely with Operations Manager and the Projects team
- Achieving agreed sales targets and margins.

Essential Experience
You must have direct experience of fire alarm projects within data centres. You will understand how their requirements differ from those of a conventional commercial fire alarm installation, including operational continuity, early detection, system interfaces and upgrades within live, critical environments. We are looking for someone with:
- A proven track record in fire alarm installation new business sales
- Experience surveying, specifying or selling new and upgraded fire alarm systems for data centres.
- The ability to discuss data centre requirements confidently with technical teams, consultants and end users.
- A sound understanding of relevant British Standards for fire detection and alarm systems.
- Strong estimating, costing, negotiation and commercial skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The organisation and initiative to manage opportunities from enquiry through to order.

Knowledge or experience of gaseous fire suppression systems would be highly desirable, particularly an understanding of how detection, alarm and suppression systems work together within data centre environments.
