Ocean Media Group is the market leader in social housing across print, digital and events. The housing portfolio includes the flagship publication, Inside Housing, which is read by over 26,000 subscribers, and Europe’s largest housing conference, ‘Housing’, which generates £3m in revenue, and is attended by over 8,000 housing professionals. Ocean Media’s housing portfolio is the largest and most profitable part of the group, contributing over £8m in revenue annually.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for delivering revenues across client solutions, awards and conferences. Working closely with multiple stakeholders in marketing and content functions, the role will involve selling intelligent campaigns across the entire Inside Housing and Social Housing portfolio.

Sales Objectives

  • Exceeding team and individual sales targets set, including:
    • Client solutions
    • Awards sponsorship
    • Conferences sponsorship and exhibitions
  • Selling bespoke marketing packages over the telephone, at client meetings and at events
  • Accurately forecast and track key sales metrics – reporting weekly to Head of Business Development
  • Generating new business opportunities and growing revenues with existing key accounts
  • Contributing ideas and developing opportunities that will assist in the growth of the business

Account Responsibilities

  • Operate as the lead point of contact for all matters specific to your accounts
  • Develop a trusted advisor relationship with customer stakeholders
  • Ensure the timely and successful execution of all deliverables
  • Administrative upkeep including contracts, systems and assisting Accounts/Finance team

Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Behaviours

  • A proven track record in event, print and/or digital advertising sales
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
  • A natural problem solver, the post holder has both the analytical skills to quickly understand an issue facing the market, and the creativity and initiative to identify a solution
  • Confident, outgoing personality
  • Must have proven attention to detail and a track record of checking own and others’ work for accuracy
  • The ability to work both as part of a team and on own initiative will be imperative to this role
  • Commercial awareness and business acumen
