Business Development Manager, Industrial Electronics

UK wide, field based | c. £55k base + uncapped commission - OTE £80k

Are you the person who opens the door, rather than the one who inherits the account?

I'm working with an established UK contract electronics manufacturer (EMS), ISO 9001 accredited, on a newly created role: their first Business Development Manager dedicated to Industrial.

The business already has a strong track record of building complex, regulated electronics for OEM customers. Industrial is where they're now investing most. It's also the sector expected to move fastest, with projects going from concept to volume in months rather than years.

The Role

This role is purely about winning new business. You'll find and target OEMs across automation, control systems, instrumentation, energy management, industrial IoT and embedded electronics. You'll then take them from first conversation through RFI, RFQ and negotiation to a signed order. Once a client is live and moving into production, you hand over to account management and get back to hunting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Deals You'd Be Chasing

  • Clients who have outgrown their current manufacturer and need to transfer a product
  • Clients unhappy with their current EMS partner who want to move the whole job
  • Startups scaling from ten units to a thousand within months
  • New OEM accounts, typically £100k to £600k, with some reaching £1m

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years in business development or sales within EMS or industrial electronics, ideally at a contract manufacturer or an electronics distributor
  • Real manufacturing understanding, enough to hold a technical conversation with an engineer, not just a buyer
  • Working knowledge of product lifecycles, obsolescence, supply chain resilience and ISO 9001 environments
  • A true hunter mindset, and the self discipline to run your own patch without a lot of sales structure around you
  • Confidence with senior engineering, procurement and leadership stakeholders
  • A full UK driving licence, and you're happy to travel regularly, including to the head office in the East of England

Why It's Worth a Conversation

  • You'll build the Industrial BD function from the ground up, rather than picking up someone else's patch
  • Real freedom over how you work your territory
  • Flexible on where you're based, though the South East or Cambridge area is ideal given where current customers are
  • A 3 to 6 month technical sales cycle built on relationships, not volume
