Business Development Manager – Merchant Software

UK Home-Based | National Coverage

Attractive Basic Salary + Bonus + Company Car + Benefits

Are you a commercially driven, technology-minded sales professional with a strong understanding of the UK builders’ merchant sector?

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a newly created Business Development Manager position with an established and highly respected provider of specialist business-management software to the merchant industry.

Our client has been supporting merchants for more than 30 years and provides a comprehensive ERP system that helps customers manage their entire business operation—from trade-counter sales and customer accounts through to purchasing, stock control, CRM, financials and management reporting.

The company already supports both independent merchants and major multi-branch organisations and is now looking for an intelligent, credible and self-motivated Business Development Manager to help drive its next stage of growth.

The opportunity

Working from home and covering the UK, you will focus predominantly on identifying and securing new customers while also developing relationships with selected existing accounts.

This is a consultative, relationship-led sales role. You will take time to understand how each merchant operates, identify its business and systems requirements and demonstrate how the company’s software can improve efficiency, visibility and control.

Customers are choosing more than a piece of software—they are selecting a long-term technology and service partner. Your ability to establish trust, understand complex requirements and give senior decision-makers confidence in both the system and the company behind it will therefore be essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
