Job Description

Position Summary

Manage and oversee all business development and customer management aspects across the business, preparing and negotiating bids and project contracts with a firm understanding of the current UK&I construction market context and environment.

  • Work as a key strategic contributor to the UK&I Business Development strategy, with input into and knowledge of the major projects, energy and infrastructure pipeline.
  • Enhance FC’s market position and presence, achieving financial and reputational growth for the organization.
  • Identify and implement short, medium and longer term strategic objectives that lead to strong client relations and substantive, sustainable business growth.
  • Identify, target and negotiate business opportunities that strengthen FC’s position in the UK&I infrastructure industry.
  • Lead and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies, policies and practices related to the pre-qualification, EOI/ tendering and pre-contracts components of contract award, including contractual, commercial and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide sound, detailed and knowledgeable market analysis reports that add a commercial and customer excellence focus and external orientation to the Ferrovial culture.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Tertiary degree in civil engineering or similar.
  • Post-Graduate qualifications in Construction, Business or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Relevant experience in business development, bidding, commercial management, project delivery, pre-construction or client management within construction or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in preparation of expression of interests, proposals, frameworks or tenders.
  • Relevant experience in negotiating and closing business deals within the UK&I market.
  • A customer-centric approach to developing and sustaining commercial and industry relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing competing deadlines and multiple stakeholders.
  • Sound ability to lead business negotiations in a multitude of contexts and environments including with government agencies, joint venture teams and investors.
  • Preparedness to educate, develop and enhance the organisation’s level of commercial and client management capability.
  • An ability to improve and manage reputational credibility, knowing when to take actions to mitigate brand risk.

Responsibilities And Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Position-Specific Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive market research and continuously monitor the local market identifying trends and opportunities that may inform Ferrovial UK&I’s strategic business development plans.
  • Identify and evaluate new markets and partnership opportunities through direct prospecting, networking, attendance and participation with various industry and professional groups and networking associations.
  • Provide input to industry associations and groups that benefit FC’s strategic position in the market.
  • Develop a situation analysis including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to assist in the development of a strategic plan for the future of the business, including market and competitive analysis, and customer needs assessment.
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with government, trade industry and private sector networks and associations.
  • Develop strategies and implement practices that enhance FC’s value proposition to clients and the infrastructure industry and market.
  • Actively drive FC’s presence and visibility in the market, including leveraging joint venture and partnership opportunities to maximise company value and benefit.
  • Participate in commercial discussions and negotiations related to joint ventures/ consortium formation.
  • Liaise with Ferrovial Construction Bidding Department in Madrid (HQ) regarding the approval process of new business opportunities and comply with the requirements of corporate operational procedures related to business development.
  • Lead early interactions with Clients regarding future opportunities including registrations of interest and participate in market soundings to provide feedback on technical and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Lead and prepare prequalification and Expression of Interests including development of returnable schedules.
  • Support tender teams working collaboratively with all departments and external advisors involved in the preparation of the bids (legal and commercial, estimating, technical teams, etc.).
  • Prepare pipeline and business opportunities presentations and reports and keep up to date the in-house Customer Relations Management (CRM) system.
  • Maintain accurate records and files of all the tender data (i.e. correspondence, quotations, internal input, etc.).
  • Prepare, manage and monitor bid budgets.
  • Responding to enquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assisting the business in organising relevant pre-qualification requisites, approvals and permits where necessary.
  • Motivating others and provides leadership to accomplish team goals without having direct authority over team members.
  • Prudently managing resources within budgetary guidelines according to company policy and within ethical corporate governance guidelines.
