About Pickerings Hire

Pickerings Hire is one of the UK's leading providers of modular building solutions. For more than 50 years, we have delivered high-quality accommodation across the construction, education, healthcare, commercial and industrial sectors.

Building on our expertise in temporary accommodation, we are expanding our permanent modular building offering and are seeking an ambitious Business Development Manager to drive growth within this key area of the business.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new opportunities for compliant modular building solutions across a range of sectors.

Working with developers, contractors, education providers, healthcare organisations, local authorities and commercial businesses, you will build relationships with key decision-makers, influence projects at an early stage and convert opportunities into profitable sales.

You will work closely with our Design, Estimating and Project Delivery teams to develop innovative modular solutions that meet customer requirements and deliver exceptional value.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities for permanent modular building solutions.
  • Developing relationships with architects, consultants, developers, main contractors, local authorities and end users.
  • Generating project opportunities through networking, market intelligence and proactive business development.
  • Engaging with customers early in the project lifecycle to influence specifications and position Pickerings Hire as the preferred delivery partner.
  • Preparing and presenting compelling proposals, quotations and tender submissions.
  • Working collaboratively with internal design, estimating and operational teams to develop commercially competitive solutions.
  • Managing opportunities from initial enquiry through to contract award and project handover.
  • Maintaining an accurate sales pipeline and delivering against agreed sales and profitability targets.
  • Representing Pickerings Hire at industry events, exhibitions and customer meetings to raise brand awareness and generate new opportunities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
