Berthold Technologies UK is looking for a proactive and commercially driven Business Development Manager to grow our Radiation Protection and Bio business across the UK, with a particular focus on the civil nuclear, nuclear decommissioning, radioactive-waste, and medical sectors.

This is an active, outward-facing business development role for someone with strong nuclear-sector sales experience who enjoys identifying new opportunities, opening doors, and developing customer relationships from initial contact through to order.

Berthold is a global specialist in radiation measurement and detection technology. Our systems are used across nuclear facilities, decommissioning sites, radioactive-waste operations, hospitals, nuclear-medicine departments, industrial sites, research institutions, and specialist laboratories.

We already have an established presence within hospitals and nuclear medicine. The successful candidate will maintain and grow this customer base while playing a major role in expanding Berthold’s position within the UK civil nuclear, decommissioning, waste-management, and industrial markets.

The role will also include selected Bioanalytics opportunities, but the principal focus will be Radiation Protection, nuclear, and medical applications.

The role

Working from home and traveling throughout the UK, you will be responsible for developing new business, building strategic customer relationships, and converting technically complex opportunities into orders.

This is not a passive account-management role. You will be expected to build and manage your own pipeline through direct prospecting, customer visits, industry networking, market intelligence, tenders, frameworks, events, and engagement with nuclear operators, contractors, consultants, hospitals, research organizations, and procurement teams.

The principal focus will be on:

  • civil nuclear;
  • nuclear decommissioning;
  • radioactive-waste management;
  • radiation monitoring and protection;
  • nuclear medicine and hospital applications;
  • industrial radiation detection; and
  • selected research and laboratory applications.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities throughout the UK.
  • Develop and execute structured market and strategic account plans.
  • Expand Berthold’s presence within civil nuclear, nuclear decommissioning, and radioactive-waste markets.
  • Build relationships with nuclear site operators, Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, engineering companies, consultants, and public-sector organizations.
  • Identify and pursue relevant frameworks, tenders, and long-term procurement opportunities.
  • Maintain and grow established hospital and nuclear-medicine accounts.
  • Develop relationships with radiation protection advisers, health physicists, nuclear engineers, waste managers, medical physicists, and procurement teams.
  • Identify applications for radiation detection, monitoring, contamination control, and personnel protection systems.
  • Arrange and conduct customer meetings, site visits, technical discussions, and product demonstrations.
  • Understand customer applications and recommend appropriate Berthold solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to replace aging, obsolete, or competitor equipment.
  • Manage opportunities from initial contact and technical evaluation through to quotation, negotiation, and order.
  • Prepare technically accurate quotations, proposals, tender submissions, and framework applications.
  • Coordinate product evaluations, trials, commissioning support, and customer training.
  • Follow up proposals consistently and drive opportunities towards a commercial decision.
  • Maintain a strong and accurate sales pipeline.
  • Provide reliable forecasts and report on market activity, competitor developments, and strategic opportunities.
  • Work closely with Berthold’s UK service team and product specialists in Germany.
  • Represent Berthold at nuclear, radiation protection, medical, and technical industry events.
  • Support selected Bioanalytics opportunities where relevant to existing customer relationships or strategic growth areas.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
