Job Title: Business Development Manager | Precious Metals
Location: United Kingdom (flexible)
Sector: Precious Metals | Metals & Mining | Testing & Analysis | Inspection | Laboratory Services
Imperium Commodity Search is confidentially retained to appoint a Business Development Manager on behalf of a specialist organisation providing technical, analytical and testing services to clients across the global metals and mining industry.
The business works with organisations throughout the precious and non-ferrous metals supply chain, providing independent technical expertise and analytical services to support the accurate assessment and commercial handling of metal-bearing materials.
This is a commercially focused role with responsibility for developing new client relationships, growing existing accounts and expanding the company's presence across the UK and international metals markets. The successful candidate does not necessarily need to come directly from precious metals. We are interested in speaking with strong business development professionals who can demonstrate the ability to develop technical or specialist B2B services, particularly within metals, mining, commodities, inspection, testing or adjacent industrial markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business opportunities across the metals, mining and commodity sectors
- Build relationships with mining companies, refiners, recyclers, traders, processors, fabricators and other participants across the metals supply chain
- Promote specialist analytical, testing and technical services to both new and existing customers
- Manage the full business development lifecycle, from identifying prospects and opening conversations through to commercial negotiation and account development
- Develop a strong understanding of individual client requirements and work with technical colleagues to provide appropriate solutions
- Grow and manage key accounts, identifying opportunities to broaden the services provided
- Develop new markets, customers and commercial partnerships in the UK and internationally
- Attend relevant industry conferences, exhibitions and client meetings
- Maintain an active commercial pipeline and provide clear reporting on business development activity
- Work closely with technical, laboratory and operational teams to ensure a high-quality client experience

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience within metals, precious metals, mining, commodities, laboratory testing, inspection, certification, analytical services or a related industrial sector would be highly advantageous, but is not essential. Candidates coming from adjacent technical service businesses who can demonstrate a successful business development track record are equally encouraged to apply.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join a well-established specialist business with a strong technical reputation and an international client base. The successful candidate will have considerable scope to develop the commercial function, build relationships across the metals industry and identify new areas of growth, while working closely with an experienced technical team. The role would particularly suit somebody who enjoys developing specialist B2B relationships and wants a position where they can have a visible impact on the continued commercial growth of the organisation.
