Position: Business Development Manager – Solar PV & Renewables

Region: Southern England

Business Development Manager – Solar PV & Renewable Energy

The Opportunity

Our client is a market-leading distributor serving the construction industry with an extensive portfolio of building materials, construction products, and renewable energy solutions. As demand for Solar PV continues to grow, they are investing heavily in expanding their renewables division and are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to support that growth across Southern England.

This is a field-based role where you’ll be responsible for developing a profitable territory, building strong customer relationships, and increasing market share within the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. You’ll have the freedom to shape your own business plan, supported by a recognised brand, technical expertise, and a comprehensive product offering.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, your focus will be on identifying opportunities, securing new business, and developing long-term partnerships across a varied customer base.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Driving sales growth of Solar PV systems and renewable energy solutions throughout Southern England.
  • Developing business with both new and existing customers.
  • Building relationships with:
    • Solar PV installers
    • Electrical contractors
    • Roofing contractors
    • Builders’ merchants
    • Housebuilders
    • Property developers
    • Main contractors
    • Housing Associations
    • Local Authorities
  • Identifying project opportunities from early engagement through to order completion.
  • Producing quotations, commercial proposals, and account development plans.
  • Working alongside technical specialists and internal sales teams to deliver the best possible customer experience.
  • Keeping up to date with industry developments, legislation, and emerging renewable technologies.
  • Managing sales activity, forecasts, and pipeline performance to achieve business objectives.

The Person

This role would suit an experienced Business Development Manager, Area Sales Manager, Key Account Manager, or Technical Sales Manager with a proven ability to win business and develop lasting customer relationships.

You’ll ideally bring experience from one or more of the following sectors:

  • Solar PV
  • Renewable energy
  • Battery storage
  • Roofing products
  • Electrical products
  • Building materials
  • Construction products
  • Technical building products

Experience working with contractors, merchants, developers, housebuilders, local authorities, or specification-led projects would be highly advantageous.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Can Demonstrate

  • A successful background in business development or technical sales.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to identify profitable opportunities.
  • A self-motivated, organised, and results-focused approach.
  • Confidence managing a large geographical territory.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for renewable energy and sustainable construction.
