Business Development Manager - Payments & Financial Services
London (hybrid) · Permanent, full time
Red Flag Alert is hiring a (Senior) Business Development Manager in London to own new business across payments, business banking, fintech, asset management and the investor community.
Who we are
Red Flag Alert is a UK business intelligence and risk platform. We tell our clients which companies to take on, which to onboard and which to walk away from, using real-time financial health, insolvency prediction, ownership and compliance data. Our clients include IWOCA, DivideBuy, Close Brothers, Santander, Kier, RSM and DWF.
We are building the sales function around a new go-to-market framework, a new deal stage model and serious investment in outbound. The strategy is set, the execution is starting and this is a great moment to join.
The role
Regulated firms have to check who they do business with, and keep checking. Most providers confirm a business exists. We predict whether it will still be trading when it matters. That is a real difference and it sells.
You will own a defined patch of regulated buyers that we have never targeted deliberately, and you will be the first dedicated seller into it. Nobody hands you a territory to inherit. You build it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What you will do
- Generate your own pipeline. SDRs and marketing are behind you, but a senior BDM here opens doors nobody else can.
- Run proper regulated sales cycles: 90 to 120 days, multi-threaded, with risk, compliance, security and procurement in the room.
- Sell the commercial consequence, not a data feed. Anyone who pitches this as an AML tool loses to a cheaper vendor.
- Build the segment playbook: what lands, which objections recur, who you are up against.
- Keep HubSpot clean and your forecast honest. We forecast off the system, not off optimism.
- Work the ecosystem: industry bodies, consultancies, advisers and resellers.
- Hand over well to Customer Success so accounts grow after year one.
What we are looking for
Sector expertise is the hard requirement. You must have sold into at least one of these, and be credible with its buyers on day one:
- Payments (acquiring, payment facilitation, PIs, EMIs, PSPs)
- Business or commercial banking
- Fintech and embedded finance
- Asset and wealth management
- Private equity, venture capital, debt funds or corporate finance

Get help with your application
Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
We would rather hire deep expertise in one of these with a live network than a light touch across all five.
Also essential:
- Five or more years in B2B new business, consistently hitting or beating quota
- Evidence of pipeline you created yourself, not pipeline that was handed to you
- Comfortable talking risk, onboarding or financial crime with an MLRO, without a script
- Disciplined CRM and forecasting habits
- Based in or commutable to London, and happy to be in front of clients regularly
Nice to have
- A live network at Head of Merchant Risk, Head of Underwriting, MLRO or COO level.
- Regulatory literacy (MLR 2017, PSR 2017, FCA authorisation categories).
- Reseller or referral routes into regulated buyers.
What you get
A segment with proven demand and a regulatory buying trigger, rather than a territory you have to invent. Product that genuinely differentiates. SDR and marketing support. Direct access to the VP Revenue and the exec team. Competitive base, uncapped commission and benefits incl. private health insurance, company car scheme etc.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
