Business Development Manager – Plumbing & Heating Merchant
Location: East Sussex
Hours: Full-time, Permanent | Monday–Friday
Salary: £50,000–£60,000 basic + Company Car or Car Allowance + Generous Commission
The Opportunity
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established independent plumbing & heating merchant for an experienced Business Development Manager to develop sales across a successful network of branches in East Sussex.
This is a field-based role focused on growing existing trade accounts, winning new customers and working closely with branch teams to drive profitable sales growth across the area.
The Role
You'll take ownership of your territory, building strong relationships with plumbers, heating engineers, installers, contractors and other trade customers.
You'll identify new business opportunities, develop existing accounts and work alongside branch teams to maximise sales, margin and customer loyalty.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow and develop existing plumbing and heating trade accounts.
- Identify and win new customers across the territory.
- Build long-term relationships with plumbers, installers, contractors and trade customers.
- Drive profitable sales and increase customer spend.
- Work closely with branch teams to maximise sales opportunities.
- Manage an active pipeline and structured customer call plan.
- Identify local market opportunities and competitor activity.
- Support pricing, account management and credit control where required.
- Develop new routes to market and increase the merchant's presence across the area.

About You
We're ideally looking for someone with proven sales experience within a plumbing & heating merchant or similar trade environment.
However, we will also consider candidates from a builders' merchant background who have strong field sales/business development experience and a genuine understanding of the trade customer.

- Experience in plumbing & heating, builders' merchants or a related trade environment.
- A proven track record in field sales, business development or account management.
- Experience selling to trade customers and contractors.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- A track record of winning new business and growing existing accounts.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
- A self-motivated, target-driven approach.
