Position: Customer Engagement Consultant (BDM - Public Sector)
Location: Remote/National coverage
Salary: Up to £40,000 plus up to 12k bonuses
As we continue to grow, we're looking for an ambitious Customer Engagement Consultant/Business Development Manager to join our Customer Engagement team and focus on the Public Sector. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in expanding our public sector partnerships, helping organisations develop their workforce through high-quality apprenticeship and commercial training solutions. If you're a driven business development professional with experience selling into the public sector and a passion for creating meaningful customer relationships, we'd love to hear from you.
Reporting to the Head of Customer Engagement, you'll be responsible for identifying, engaging and securing new employer partnerships across the public sector, with a focus on NHS organisations, local authorities, charities and education providers.
This is a pure new business role where you'll develop a strong sales pipeline, build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers and deliver consultative workforce development solutions that meet customer needs while achieving ambitious growth targets. Working collaboratively with internal specialists, you'll position Babington as the partner of choice for apprenticeships and commercial learning solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure new public sector customers across your assigned region
- Build and manage a sustainable pipeline of apprenticeship and commercial training opportunities
- Develop trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across NHS organisations, local authorities, charities and education providers
- Take a consultative sales approach, understanding organisational challenges and recommending tailored workforce development solutions
- Consistently achieve new business, revenue and client acquisition targets
- Produce compelling proposals and collaborate with internal experts to deliver high-quality customer presentations
- Represent Babington at networking events, conferences and industry forums
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and apprenticeship funding developments to identify new opportunities
- Accurately manage customer activity through CRM and maintain an organised sales pipeline
- Champion Babington's values while promoting equality, diversity, safeguarding and professional standards

What we are looking for:
- Experience in business development, sales or account management within the public sector ideally
- A confident, commercially driven sales professional who enjoys building relationships and creating long-term partnerships
- Experience working with organisations such as the NHS, local authorities, charities or education providers
- A strong track record of consistently achieving sales targets and KPIs
- Knowledge of apprenticeships, funded learning or workforce development solutions
- Excellent consultative selling, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to influence senior decision-makers and develop strategic customer relationships
- Experience researching markets, identifying opportunities and creating successful sales pipelines
- Strong presentation, communication and proposal-writing skills
- Confidence using CRM systems and Microsoft Office
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with excellent organisational skills
