About the company

Our client is a leader in the design and manufacture of high performance electromechanical drive systems, specializing in stepper motors and brushed and brushless DC motors. The recruitment firm Sigma is recruiting a Business Developer for Manchester (Home/Office) Permanent Contract.

Purpose of the job

  • Detect, select, develop the most important potential customers for the products sold by the company in the Territory (UK, Ireland) to generate new business opportunities
  • Manage a portfolio of small/medium size customers and grow the business in the assigned territory (technical and commercial support)
  • Manage incoming leads in the territory and projects from enquiry to production

General

  • Apply the company's strategy, policy, and processes (products, markets, administration, general policies, etc…)
  • Frequently visit and call existing and new customers
  • Be curious about our business (new needs, new market segments, new products, competition, …) to get information about technical, commercial, and logistics needs
  • Give at any time the best image of the company in any circumstance (customer visits, exhibitions, …) according to Communication and Brand guidelines
  • Update the CRM on a daily basis (visit reports, projects, quotes, customer contacts, etc…).
  • Ensure best organization and prioritization to work efficiently
  • Ensure that customer satisfaction and business growth are always the top of the priorities

Area and Account Management (30%)

  • Intensive and proactive follow-up of the customers (existing business, priority projects)
  • Develop trustful and steady relationships at all levels of the organization of the customers (Purchase, R&D, Production, Quality, Management, …) to understand their business, applications, available business for the company, etc… and generate new opportunities
  • Understand customer needs and problems (technical, commercial, logistics, others) and manage the coordination within the various departments of the company to satisfy the customers
  • Understand the business of the customers and propose perspectives for improvement
  • Maintain business and develop new projects at existing customers
  • Use internal resources efficiently and put the right people in contact with the customers (ex. Engineers, Management)
  • Validate all incoming orders according to the process
  • Analyze, control figures on a daily basis (order entry, Invoices, Backlog, budget difference) in order to detect any issue, end of contract, missing call off, etc…

Business Development and Projects

  • Prospect new customers according to Marketing and Business Development strategy
  • Contact incoming leads within 24 hours
  • Use common sense and process filters to select the right companies and projects
  • Generate new projects in the territory, collect and understand customer needs, propose ideas to value company's solutions
  • Manage the coordination of the project activities in collaboration with Product Managers, Engineering, etc…
  • Propose company's solutions, explain their value, and how they solve customer problems
  • Select standard products for simple, low to medium size projects
  • Analyze application specifications and propose options for larger size and more complex projects, for review with Engineers
  • Collect market information and coordinate with Business Development team to build market intelligence

Objectives

Profile and skills

  • Engineering background (HES in mechanics, mechatronics, electronics, or equivalent) with ability to develop motion expertise
  • At least 5-7 years of experience
  • Customer orientation and business acumen
  • Listening capabilities, tenacity, verbal, and written communication
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and to convert them to the right inputs to the internal team
  • Ability to select standard, variation of standard, and modular products
  • Ability to meet sales goals with the right mix of technical and commercial knowledge
  • Willingness to travel (approx. 30% of the time, to customers and to company's sites)
  • Soft skills: motivation, initiative, teamwork
  • Fluent in English, other languages a plus
