Reporting to the Director of Direct Sales, Northern Europe, our Business Development Manager delivers excellence across the territory and makes sure every customer receives a first-class experience. This is a role for someone who wants to own a territory: driving rapid market expansion while protecting and growing a significant book of business.
It calls for exceptional account management, sharp negotiation, and the leadership to set your own direction. You will grow revenue while keeping a close eye on margin, get in front of customers regularly, and use market insight to stay ahead of the competition. This is a field-based role with a home office, so you will live within the territory and travel frequently to clients.
What you will do:
- Achieve annual growth targets while monitoring discounting and gross margin in line with business expectations
- Manage and develop existing accounts to increase value, and proactively target competitor accounts for growth
- Meet customers face to face on a regular basis and identify the right decision makers and key markets
- Analyse account data and buying patterns, and forecast regularly to senior management
- Keep CRM and ERP data accurate, and represent us at exhibitions and industry events
- Share market feedback that helps shape our business direction
Your Profile
You are a self-starter who works well independently and within a dynamic team. Highly organized and able to manage your own diary, you bring a methodical, right-first-time approach, strong emotional intelligence, and the interpersonal skills to build lasting internal and external relationships.

You bring:
- A proven track record of moving business through a sales pipeline to close and consistently hitting growth targets
- A science degree or equivalent, ideally in microbiology, plus a sales or account management qualification
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills, with clear commercial awareness
- Proficiency with Microsoft platforms and the ability to work with CRM and ERP systems (e.g. HubSpot and Priority)
- Advantageous: microbiology, cleanroom, or GMP knowledge and experience in a regulated industry
- A clean UK driving licence, and willingness to travel frequently across the territory
