Business Development Manager – Whatton Developments Ltd

Location: East Midlands
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Whatton Developments is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Business Development Manager to support the continued growth of the business.

We are a residential construction and development company operating throughout the East Midlands. We deliver high-quality housing projects for private developers, landowners, housing providers, and other development partners.

This role will focus on identifying suitable opportunities, developing strong client relationships, and helping to secure a sustainable pipeline of residential construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new residential development and construction opportunities across the East Midlands and surrounding areas.
  • Build relationships with developers, landowners, housing associations, consultants, architects, and other key decision-makers.
  • Monitor planning applications, development pipelines, tender portals, and industry intelligence.
  • Introduce Whatton Developments to prospective clients and communicate our experience, capabilities, and approach.
  • Secure opportunities to tender and support the preparation of expressions of interest, pre-qualification submissions, and bid documentation.
  • Maintain regular contact with prospective and existing clients throughout the pre-construction process.
  • Work closely with the directors, commercial team, and operational team to assess opportunities and agree bidding strategies.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date pipeline of leads, opportunities, and client activity.
  • Attend networking events, industry meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
  • Support the development of marketing material, case studies, and company credentials.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous business development experience within residential construction, housebuilding, or property development.
  • Understands the construction tendering and pre-construction process.
  • Has an established network within the East Midlands property and construction market.
  • Can identify credible opportunities and develop them into tender enquiries and secured projects.
  • Is confident communicating with senior decision-makers and representing the business professionally.
  • Is organized, proactive, and comfortable managing their own workload.
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and is willing to travel throughout the region.
