Business Development Manager – Technology
Leeds / Hybrid
If you enjoy picking up the phone, meeting new people and turning conversations into long-term client relationships, this could be for you.
Exalto Consulting is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to take ownership of winning new customers and help drive the next stage of our growth. This is a genuine end-to-end sales role.
You'll identify the organisations we should be working with, find and engage the right people, create opportunities, build relationships and ultimately convert those conversations into new customers. And you'll have more than one thing to talk about.
Exalto helps technology organisations find great people, develop great leaders and build better teams through recruitment, coaching, leadership development and consultancy.
Your job will be to open the door, understand the customer's challenges and work with our team to identify where we can genuinely help.
The role
You'll take ownership of developing new business relationships with technology leaders and organisations across the UK.
We're not looking for somebody who wants to sit behind email and LinkedIn all day.
You'll use them, of course, but you'll also be comfortable picking up the phone, attending events, meeting people for coffee, building networks and getting in front of customers.
You'll be responsible for the full sales process, including:
- Identifying and researching target organisations
- Building relationships with CIOs, CTOs, Technology Directors and other senior decision-makers
- Prospecting through phone, LinkedIn, email, networking and events
- Creating and executing account-based sales plans
- Generating meetings and identifying new opportunities
- Understanding the client's business, technology and people challenges
- Introducing relevant Exalto recruitment, coaching, leadership and consultancy services
- Developing proposals and presenting solutions
- Negotiating and closing new business
- Developing new customers into long-term Exalto relationships
- Working closely with our recruitment, coaching and leadership teams to ensure we deliver what we've promised
- Representing Exalto at roundtables, conferences and technology events
- Building your own network and profile within the technology community
- Using AI, data and technology intelligently to improve prospecting and sales productivity

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You'll have plenty of support around you, but ultimately you'll own the sales process from first conversation through to signed customer.
What we're looking for
You'll ideally come from a technology recruitment, IT consultancy, technology services or similar B2B sales background. You don't need to know everything about recruitment, coaching and consultancy from day one. You do need to know how to sell.
The person
Sales involves rejection. There will be people who don't answer. People who aren't interested. People who say no. And people who say yes, then disappear. We're looking for someone who understands that's part of the job and keeps going.
You'll be:
- Tenacious – you're comfortable hearing no and making the next call.
- Resilient – a bad morning doesn't become a bad week.
- Curious – you want to understand the person and business before trying to sell them something.
- Personable – you enjoy talking to people, meeting customers and building genuine relationships.
- Commercial – you can spot an opportunity and know how to move it forward.
- Accountable – you take ownership of your pipeline and results.
- Proactive – you don't wait for marketing to provide you with opportunities.
- Adaptable – you can have very different conversations with different customers and adjust your approach accordingly.
- Ambitious – you want your role and responsibility to grow as Exalto grows.

Why Exalto?
Exalto is an established technology recruitment and leadership business with ambitious plans for growth. We've spent years building strong relationships across the technology market and have an experienced team, excellent delivery capability and a track record of working with organisations ranging from growing technology consultancies to major international businesses.
Our client NPS is +79, and 91% of our business is repeat business. That matters because we don't want you selling something we can't deliver.
Our ambition is to become one of the most customer-centric technology recruitment and people businesses in the market.
And we're building something broader than a traditional recruitment agency.
We believe great technology teams need three things:
- Great people.
- Great leadership.
- The ability to adapt.
That's why our work increasingly spans recruitment, coaching, leadership development and consultancy.
For a salesperson, that creates a much more interesting conversation.
Rather than approaching a CTO with a single service to sell, you can understand what's stopping them from building a better technology team and explore where Exalto can help.
You'll also have access to our existing content, events, roundtables, network, case studies and senior team to help create conversations.
But this isn't a role for somebody looking to manage an existing book of accounts. We want someone who wants to create one.
If you're commercially ambitious, enjoy meeting people and get genuine satisfaction from turning a cold conversation into a long-term customer relationship, we'd love to hear from you.
