Business Development Manager UK & Ireland (Remote)

About Rable

Most commercial flat roofs in the UK & Ireland could carry solar. But 20-45 percent of them cannot carry the ballast that conventional mounting systems require, so they stay empty. Not because the business case fails, but because the structure says no.

Rable builds the systems that make those roofs viable. Our patented truss technology carries load the way a bridge does, adding a maximum of 14 kg per square metre to the structure instead of the weight a ballasted system needs.

We entered the UK in early 2026. The technology works and the roofs are there. What is missing is someone who knows this market and can open it.

The role

This is a senior, hands-on role. You are responsible for building Rable's commercial position in the UK and Ireland: finding the projects, running the conversations, and closing the deals.

You'll be based from home (we don't have a UK office yet) and on the road most of the time, meeting EPCs, contractors and asset owners across the UK & Ireland. You work closely with the Commercial Director in the Netherlands on direction and targets. As our first commercial hire in the UK, you work independently: the Netherlands team is your technical and engineering backup, not your day-to-day environment. You'll fly over to the Netherlands once a quarter to spend time with the team in person.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you will do

  • Build and own the UK and Ireland relationship network with EPCs, roofing contractors, structural engineers and asset owners.
  • Configure projects on technical and commercial fit, prepare and send quotes.
  • Manage and grow our wholesale distribution partnership.
  • Deliver against the commercial KPIs agreed with the Commercial Director, and report on pipeline, revenue and market development.
  • Establish Rable as a known name in UK solar: outbound campaigns, trade presence, positioning.
  • Feed market intelligence back into the group: what the UK market needs that we do not yet offer.
  • Report to the Commercial Director on pipeline, revenue and market development.

What you need to have done before

  • 3 or more years selling products or systems into UK solar.
  • A live UK network you can activate in week one. You can name the EPCs, contractors and engineering firms you have sold to in the last two years.
  • Worked with or through distribution or wholesale partners.
  • Comfortable operating alone in the country, with a Dutch head office and no local support structure.

This role is probably not for you if

  • Your experience is in a different sector and you are looking to move into solar.
  • You want an established brand, an existing pipeline or a marketing engine behind you.
  • You need day to day management.

What we offer

  • Base salary plus commission on closed revenue.
  • A product with a real technical advantage. On roofs that cannot take ballast, there is very little to compete with. You are not selling on price against ten identical suppliers.
  • Proven technology. at scale in the Netherlands, with reference projects and load data you can put in front of a structural engineer.
  • An open market. UK commercial rooftop solar is growing, and the structurally limited part of it is largely untouched. Whoever gets there first sets the standard.
  • Real influence on direction. You shape the UK and Ireland strategy together with the Commercial Director. You know the UK and Ireland market better than anyone at head office will, and the strategy is built on what you bring back.
  • Full autonomy over how you run your patch, working from home with no daily oversight.
