£58,000 – £64,000 basic + bonus (up to 15%) + 4x life insurance
Genuine autonomy from day one — quick decisions, no red tape, and the freedom to run your patch as you see fit
Backed by the scale and resources of a global technology group, while working within a small, close-knit local business unit
Exposure to some of the most technically interesting end-markets in UK industry — defence, renewable energy and aerospace among them
THE CLIENT
Our client is the Scottish business unit of an international technology and engineering group — a business small enough that decisions happen fast and big enough that it’s backed by serious engineering capability and investment. It operates at the sharper end of industrial and manufacturing applications, and its products find their way into some genuinely high-stakes environments: defence programmes, renewable energy infrastructure, aerospace applications, and other technically demanding sectors where reliability isn’t negotiable.
This is a business that trusts the people closest to the customer to make the calls. There’s no layer of sign-off slowing things down — if you spot an opportunity or a better way of doing something, you’re expected to just get on with it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

THE ROLE
As Business Development Manager, you’ll take ownership of growing the client base across engineering and manufacturing sectors, with particular relevance to defence, renewable energy and aerospace applications. You’ll be out identifying and developing new business opportunities, building relationships with technical and commercial stakeholders, and representing a product offering that depends on real credibility in front of engineers and buyers alike.
Day to day, that means prospecting and developing your own pipeline rather than working a handed-down list; understanding customer applications well enough to have a genuine technical conversation, not just a sales one; managing the full relationship from first contact through to repeat, embedded business; and feeding insight back into the business on where the market’s moving. You’ll have real latitude in how you build and run your patch — this is a business that wants initiative, not someone waiting to be told what to do next.

The role is based in the Central Belt, with hybrid working between home and the office.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll have a sales background built in industrial or manufacturing applications or environments — you don’t need to come from this exact sector, but you do need to be comfortable talking technically with engineers and technical buyers, and credible doing it. You’ll be a self-starter who’s happiest building your own opportunities rather than managing an existing book, commercially sharp, and genuinely energised by autonomy rather than needing a lot of structure around you.
Experience selling into technical, engineering-led, or manufacturing environments will count for a lot here; specific knowledge of defence, renewable energy or aerospace applications is a strong plus but isn’t a prerequisite.
THE REWARDS
£58,000 to £64,000 basic salary depending on experience, plus a bonus structure worth up to around 15%, 4x salary life insurance, and hybrid working. You’ll also get the backing of a genuinely global technology brand alongside the autonomy of a small local unit — a combination that’s harder to find than it sounds.
